between 4 and 50 days, depending on the state.

Indiana, where I live, is 30 days.

LOL if that was true up here, I'd be able to vote today.

Can you imagine having an election like ours? Just over one month for the whole thing.

that's one of my qualms with the parliamentary system.

What is everyones opinion on Ron Paul?

I love some of his ideas and policies, but others are just insane. If he changed a few things up and got rid of some of his loonier ideas I would definitely consider voting for someone like him in the future

Ron Paul is an extremely charming and likeable guy.

Like you, I love some of his ideas and some I think are a bit too out there. But I give him infinite credit for staying true to his convictions and not softening his ideas just to get votes. He has integrity.

Unfortunately I think by 2012 his age will be too much for him to handle an election run.

He is though pretty much the quint essential Republican..small government, lower spending, lower taxes.

I like Ron Pauls "loonier" ideas as well as the good ones. Not all of them, though.

I love some of the exchanges he and McCain had during the debates during the primaries.

I remember him going on about aboloshing the IRS and income tax. I think this is a bit crazy as the income tax is a good source of revenue, I would be all for creating a flat income tax rate though.

I don't always agree with him, but I respect him, he is closer to what a real republican used to be.

I'd be for eliminating income tax and aboloshing the IRS AND the DEA.

Well....vote Ron Paul then.

Ron Paul obviously was some sort of hope for the libertarians of the US and especially the (admittedly small) libertarian wing of the Republican Party. Personally I loved a lot of the stuff he said, he appears very intelligent and he is very likable. Personally his style of debating appealed to me a lot and in his more thorough interviews a lot of his ideas became much clearer and more rational than the bits one glimpsed in the Debates. Now, he's far from perfect, and I disliked quite a few of his ideas (probably not the ones you people find "loony" though), but on the whole I liked him a lot.

Not to get too off topic, but how likely is a draft if either of the two big parties become president.

Completely unlikely in my opinion. There will be the fanatics that will scream "McCain will re-instate the draft to muster the manpower for his 10 new wars!!!!11one" but they are fanatic Obamabots.

My view is that, with all the powers of the world having Nukes, no war will ever that so intense in terms of loss of life that we would ever need to resort to a draft..Nukes would just be used and we would all be ****ed.

That was a bit confusing to type..so as an example:

If the US and Russia went to war. It would be incredibly bloody, but at some point Nukes would be launched before any country started to lose hundreds of thousands of soldiers and would need the draft.

How about just supplying soldiers for the one he wants to maintain for several years?

We have 144,000 soldiers in Iraq, this is during the surge as well.

We have 1,426,713 active military personnel.

I doubt we will be needing a draft for Iraq anytime soon.

And while I don't believe Obama or McCain will end the war..I do believe both will reduce troop numbers.

Yeah, there will never ever be a draft again, no matter who is in power. There would be riots in the streets.

I don't know. I think they could have gotten away with re-instituting the draft after 9/11. The country united in a way that may never happen again. The people were willing to follow the decisions of any leader at that time. Thanks to the the presidents uninformed and slapdash decisions. I don't think that kind of unity will ever be seen again in my lifetime but i think it is very likely that we may see mandatory military service within the next thirty years. Especially if Obama gets into office and is successful in achieving his communistic goals lol

Weren't there riots the first time?
