"No."

It's completely normal to ask "what if I wanted to get some books banned?" Or however it was phrased? I'm having trouble trying to work out how that is in any way normal.

Rape is hardly the equivalent of banning a questionable book.

note that in the factcheck.org write-up, they say:

"We can't read minds, so it is impossible for us to know whether or not Palin may actually have wanted to ban books from the library or whether she simply wanted to know how her new employees would respond to an instruction from their boss. It is worth noting that, in an update, the Frontiersman points out that no book was ever banned from the library’s shelves."

What exactly is a questionable book? Also, is this the same Palin that boasts of libertarian-like beliefs? Fraud of a woman.

Nobody knows because no real attempt was made to "ban" a book.

It was a rhetorical question.

Fraud of a smear.

a) no book should be questionable in a free society
b) the rape wasn't the point, the question was

That requires an awfully large level of naivety. She wouldn't have asked unless she wanted to do it. Morals didn't stop her, the bill of rights didn't stop her the moral position of a librarian stopped her.

Horsecrap.

What stopped her is that she never had any intention of banning books, never asked for any specific book to be banned, nor did she ever fire the librarian.

That's all been debunked.

She asked a "what if?" question. That's what a new leader would do when meeting supervisors of departments.

That's what she's stated.

Any "intentions" otherwise are your own projections.

Your "it was a rhetorical question" is pure shit.

Why would she inquire if she had absolutely no intention on banning one or more books? To test the system or the librarian; that's sounds logical?

Why constantly copy and paste articles... A link will suffice.

I don't know, why did she?

She says she was trying to find out how new employees would respond.

You say she's a fascist.

But no books were banned, and the librarian not fired.

So all you can say is that you THINK she would LIKE to ban books, if that was possible.

Like all I can say is that I THINK Obama would LIKE to allow babies born alive to die based on his voting record...oh wait, I have something substantial to base that on.

You have your opinion to base your claims on.

Again, no books were banned, nor was the librarian fired.

She asked a rhetorical question to see what the new employee would say.

But I'm delusional?

You guys are projecting what you want to see:

A book banning (false), abstinence only education (false), creationism only (false) supporting radical loony.

Keep it up, you're making the poll numbers rise in her favor.

what if she had asked to ban the bible?

You would still think that shows nothing about her character?

Dude, remove your those shades and see the light for what it is.

She asked because she was testing the waters, she knew it would be both controversial and potentially illegal to do what she wanted, which was to ban one or more books. She was playing it safe.

Asking such a question to just see how the librarian would respond is illogical; if true, makes her a complete idiot. That's like me asking if I could have sex with your wife and then responding (after you've reacted negatively), 'I wasn't serious, just wanted to see how you would react.'

The reason the book(s) weren't banned and the librarian wasn't fired is because Palin lacked the power to legally do so, not because she had no intention; that's the issue here, intention.

Edit: Did she request that the librarian resign?

not to mention that the list of books is pretty much a laundry list of what conservative christians dislike. Stephen King and Harry Potter?

how subversive...

Why isn't it ever Orwell. Idiots are afraid of their kids learning witchcraft, but sure, give em the Anarchist's Cookbook.

Ah, the plot thickens, I wasn't aware (or had forgotten) she listed specific books. Anyone have the exact list?

Sith,

If Palin was just asking to see how the librarian would react and had no intentions, why make a specific list, let a lone a list which has been attacked by the religious Right in the past? Do try and be objective when answering.

Yeah, she did along with 3 other employees of various departments.

Then she gave them the jobs back the next day, because they "passed the test."

Nobody read the article from factcheck.org did they?

The list was FAKE!

It included Harry Potter and other books that HADN'T EVEN BEEN WRITTEN YET, in 1996 when this all took place.

oops, egg on my face

So now she was just testing them, and if they had said "yes, lets ban some books" they would have failed her clever test and she would have fired them permanently? That sounds logical to you?

Did she or did she not specify books in her "questioning"? I'm just curious, as not having a list still doesn't remove her of the intentions.

What list?

Oh, the one that didn't exist? For the books that were never banned?

The one that the librarian who was never fired didn't get?

She was new as mayor and was asking what policies were. Does that sound logical to you?

She didn't specify anything. This has all been debunked.

ok, hypothetical situation

if a politician asked a librarian if they could ban the bible, would that not reflect their character?

she didn't know the policy about banning books?
