It's not power. It's more like a rule. Like the authority. Jessica didn't even understand what the hell Bill was talking about when he was ordering her around in the beginning.
And @ Tattoos and Scars. Yes I do believe Godric would be a match for Russell. However Russell would win since he's still 1000 years older than Godric.
Godric is no match for Russell, at least not with what we know.
So how do you guys know Russell doesn't die? I imagine he would burn up very quickly, faster than Godric did, and when he does, Eric can bail, or at least someone could drag him back inside. I hope Russell lives though, he deserves a more glorious death.
Anyway:
Spoiler:
In the season finale promo, I saw Godric in a ghost-like form, presumably floating next to Russell and Eric. Also, a conversation b/w Queen and Bill says that Eric and Russell is dead, although it doesn't mean its true.
+ Lots of other exciting stuff, looks good
=D

I think it is a power, actually. Jessica tells Sookie that she can't disobey Bill. It's not clear either way I suppose, but I'm leaning towards it being a power.

But then how would you explain Lorena not ordering Bill to behave rather than free him?
Do you remember which episode Jessica said that?
Anyway, I hate how they don't clarify these things.

It's not exactly a power though as Bill has defied Lorena on several occasions. He returned to her when she called though because of more like the a rule thing rather than a power. IDK just my two cents though.
@ Placity.... Russell doesn't die because somewhere down the line in another season he will eventually marry the King of Indiana unless they butcher the show from the books completely.

Fantastic News 😄
He was already an unstoppable force (besides getting tricked, which won't happen again), allied with another King (and his minions) which I'd assume has racked up a considerable amount of years too, who would be able to stand up to them?
Have to wait till 2011 Q1 for Season 4 🙁
Meanwhile... Bring on Vampire Diaries (Sept 9) 🙂

Ooops I misspelled your name. Sorry mate.
Well since his love died he's been mentally unstable and very easy to trick so I dunno. As for all of the other kings and queens none are as old as Russell as far as I know. Look at the queen of Louisiana she wasn't even close to being Eric's age.
As for the new season yeah it comes out next year, but look at it this way... next year isn't to far away since it's already September tomorrow.

Well, Lorena set Bill free though when he threatened to kill himself.

I'd explain it that she can't watch him forever and at some point he could take his life, additionally though I think that him showing that he'd rather be dead than be with her convinced her to rather let him go.
Jessica said it in 3.2. or 3.3. I think.

She set him free yes, but he defied her many times before that.
I think it's one of those things that's pretty open for interpretation.

I disagree. It looks like a uncontrollable compelling force to me, similar to how Bill had no choice in leaving Jason's house when Jason took away his invitation.
Probably is explained in the book if it's a just a rule or if there's some supernatural force behind it.
