I don't think they specifically mentioned oldest, just very powerful. Eric said Godric could be king of anywhere if he wanted... obviously not Mississippi.

Eric did say "there are none above him [Godric] in the new world" to Sookie in Season 2.

Did some googling just now; this article does imply that Russell's age was decided after the fact.

Deeper Dish with Denis O'Hare

Marc Harshbarger with Chicago Now conducted an interview with Denis O’Hare and he asked him a couple of questions about True Blood and his character Russell Edgington.

Let’s begin with True Blood. Were you a fan of the show before you were cast?
I was a huge fan of the show and still am. I was introduced to the show via a bootleg VHS that had 4 episodes on it. My boyfriend Hugo and I started watching one Sunday night around 8 and by midnight we were so completely hooked that I was on the phone with Time Warner in New York begging them to give me HBO on Demand NOW. I have to watch the rest of season one NOW, don’t you understand?

What can you tell us about your character, Russell?
Russell evolved through conversations with Alan Ball [the show's creator], lots of research and hikes with Theo Alexander who plays Talbot, my vampire boyfriend of 700 years. Initially Alan told me that Russell was pretty old and was very charming and had a southern accent. We decided eventually that Russell was older than the character of Godric and so that puts him at around the 2700-2800-year-old mark – he was “made” sometime in 800 BC. He’s an ancient Celt. The Celts originated in the Carpathian mountains and then started migrating West in search of the bed of the sun. In 55 BC they were defeated by Julius Caesar in Gaul. So, obviously, Russell has worn many masks and his latest “incarnation” as a southern gentleman is just another mask. -end snip

pretty good season finale..

good make up job on denis o'hare...

next season should be good conflict for all the characters

I liked it but most didn't care for it on the tb facebook page anyways. I felt they dropped the ball a lot this season with anticipation ye not anything really happening action wise. I also felt they spent too much time on passion scenes and too little time with the vampires. I expected a lot more after Russell tore someone's heart out on national television.

Well here's the thing. Godric wasn't in the original books. They made his character up specifically for the show. So in the books Russell was and is the oldest vampire undisputed.

HBO though made him up to put their own spin on things, which has worked out pretty alright so far. But technically in the books, Godric doesn't exist.

Ending was better than the episode before it, but 'meh' overall.

-Glad Eric didn't die, he and Pam are probably my two favorite characters.

-Eric not killing Russell was moronic, I know he wants him to suffer, but considering they're both immortal, that's asking for death later on.

-Found the "Force Ghost" of Godric to be annoying.

-Am truly sick of Sookie hating Bill yet again, it's like a teen-romance. On-off-on-off, love you, hate you, love you, oh, I hate you again.

-Was surprised that the last image of Tara we see, she's smiling. Though it seems like some counter with Sookie, if Sookie is happy, Tara can't be and vice-versa.

-Don't like that Sam is now some sort of villain/bad-ass. I preferred his character as is.

/end rant

Finally watched the episode. The ending was beyond stupid.

The Godric force ghost was cool cause it was Godric but gay because it was a force ghost.

I like the fact that Tara finally gtfo of town.

Hoyt's mom is just beyond stupid. I'm glad that he got his own house with Jessica.

Bill is a pussy shit. I wish Eric would of tore his arm off or something, but I'm sure it's for a better purpose that he lives.

Mmmm. Was okay.

At least I learnt more about TB Vampires.

- Bill's Voice impersonation.
- Vampires as young as Bill can levitate, if not fly.
- Eric opened Sookie Shithouse's door without touching it - telekinesis, or summoning of winds?

- Some more information on the Invitation/Rescindment - when Shithouse told Bill to gtfo, there was a force driving him out. So its more than just being "compelled".

Okay, some other things:

- Who was Reuben? I mean Eric's assassin. Have we seen him before, or just some random?

- About Godric's Force Ghost, I actually liked it. I believe Godric ascended to a good place, maybe heaven, probably because he chose a live of peace for the latter part of his life. But it is undeniable what Godric said, that "peace follows death for all, even [Russell]". If this is true, then why did Godric keep urging Eric to forgive Russell, if it makes no difference in the end anyway?

You make me bleed, my child - nice line.

Also - Sookie is a b1tch.

Wtf was up with her grinding up Talbot and being all sadistic about it. She is one fcked up b1tch in so many ways, yet she always acts like she is on some sort of moral high ground. Stupid hoe.

And seriously, why is the word "bi-tch" filtered out?

lol u make sookie sad

Riiiight. Russel wants to drain her & made many threats to her, but she should be nice to him. You make perfect sense

"Should be nice to him"?

Quote where I said that. Please, I will wait.

I said she was being sadistic, and you make up some shit about me saying "she should be nice". You make perfect sense.

Sookie is stupid no matter what way she's trying to portray herself. She was at least tolerable in season 1.

😂 Relax. I say she was being human. If someone kept going on about killing me, draining me dry, etc(not to mention holding me captive) I'd do whatever it takes to make them suffer. Not liking her is one thing, but now you're just nitpicking over small shit. Ya already hate her, you don't really need to look THAT hard for more reasons to. Think about it.

The season finale was great.

It was a great episode, a terrible finale though. There are like 5 cliffhangers now...I mean seriously....it feels like the middle of a season not the end of one.

Lots of good stuff happening, seems like I was right that older doesn't mean more powerful necessarily. Otherwise most of it was very good, can't wait to see more of it.

just saw the crappy finale
should of just staked russel
jason is always the idiot

sookie was trying to pull the werewolve man , her supernatural fetish is lol.. like bella dat *****

man instead of the trademark 'sookie is mine' it should be
'sookie is yours...please'

I have downloaded two episodes from True Blood. It is a romantic show but not interesting very much. But i like it due to Anna Paquin and Chris Bauer's act.

At least it's not like a lot of other shows where they try to cram a million questions a minute down your throat.
