We saw how seriously he took the idea of necromancers when Bill brought it up. Erik would have snapped all their necks in seconds, but I guess the story has to go on.

He got there assessed the situation and didn't take them as seriosuly as he should have and when tara interceded it gave them the moment to function as a unit and defeat him.

He was overconfident with any of them. He used all of them as he wanted, his only mistake was trusting Bill.He held Tara and stared at them while they chanted...

I don't really care for Bill but for some reason I don't care for erik either. I like them on the show just not for me.
