Halo 3 ODST

i actually feel that gears 2 has a generally better story (at least in terms of presentation) but the gameplay was much worse than gears 1.

False. Gears 1 was much better... its best parts were the kryll and the blind brute that chases you, but both of those parts were removed in 2. Plus gears 2 had the stupid un fun monster sequences and too many cinematics in between the action, as well as barely any change in the gameplay.

I win. end of story. kthnksbye

In Gears 2, you can fight and ride Brumaks. The boss fights may kinda suck in the sequel but at least they're more entertaining than that boss fight with General RAAM. Gears 2's graphics are better and yes the gameplay maybe the same but Halo has been having the same gameplay for years so what's the problem? I never enjoyed the Kryll since I mostly found them annoying and I always did wonder why Epic didn't add the Berserkers in Gears 2 but that won't make me think part 1 is better than 2 just because it has one enemy the sequel doesn't have and no sir, you didn't win.

the brumak part was boring though in the end how was it any different than riding in the tank or any other vehicle with guns?

I think we should stay on topic just in case any moderators come in and tell us to stop. If we want to discuss this, lets talk in the Gears 2 thread.

I think they left Berserkers out because we had to fight them 3 times in the first game.

riding brumaks = super gay / corny

they think they're gonna make a movie out of this? nope.

fighting them wasn't too great either... just a few mortar shots and they went down.

and what's this? Halo's gameplay hasn't changed? REALLY??????

If you really want to start this then go ahead. I dare you. But you will not be happy with the outcome (spoiler alert: I win)

and I really tried to find the gears 2 thread.... I scrolled down the entire page and nothing. oh well

what story? Do you mean the story arc that's been used so much it's become a video game template? Oh, yeah, i didn't quite care for that story. I never felt any type of connection to the characters what so ever...

Probably the biggest problem with the Halo franchise as a whole right there (aside from maybe the level design, but that's gotten better slowly), I never felt any connection with any of the characters in any of the games.

They should probably hire new writers, whoever they have now simply can't create a consistent mood for the characters to develop in, they can't decide if they want it to be corny and campy, or dramatic and serious, and they aren't talented enough to do both effectively.

i beg to differ.

throughout the whole of the halo trilogy i felt connected to Master Chief, granted it grew slowly over the first game, but by the end of Halo Master Chief was Halo...

When Halo 2 came out, they introduced more characters that you could relate to: Johnson, Cross etc...

When Halo 3 came along, bungie had gripped and audience and lined them up for an epic finish...which it kinda was, but slightly disappointing considering the build-up...

ODST was supposed to be an Add-On pack...which is what most people don't seem to realise. they just built on it too much as regards to it being an Add-On and so it became an "expansion" to the Halo 3 story (well, prequel to Halo 3) so the game is surposed to be a quick fix of Halo for those who are that into it...

Now there isn't much character development mainly because of the above observation - expansion n all - so there's not enough time to buidl characters to the fullest. what they do is put you into their shoes, which is a very good story method. if you play as the character, you're more likely to feel for them and understand them a lot quicker than if they had a 20min cinematic scene before game play...the Rookie however is just a plot device...a means of giving more gameplay over switching between characters...

I felt the connection with master chief and cortana.. but it ended there.. characters like johnson and keyes.. they were just .. corpses to me.. either they just didnt give them enough screen time or meaningful dialogue or something..

I felt the Sarge's death.

Stupid spark ending the baddest mofo in the Halo saga.

Keyes was one of my favorite characters next to master chief .... sucks they killed him off so quickly.

But I see what backfire means when it comes to characters...

I mean Master Chief is awesome, and he's a great main character for a video game. But if you look at Halo like a movie then its hard to tell if I'd feel the same way. Super soldiers never seem to make great main characters; too few words and no real flaws

Got a little emotional at the end of Halo 3. Tis very powerful.

For me, all the characters just didn't have that all important connective tissue that they need to have. They weren't really developed at all.

I barely felt a thing when Guilty Spark killed Johnson and that's proof enough that the Halo writers aren't doing a very good job.

because you personally felt a certain way thats universal proof bungie sucks at writing?

Does anyone feel like fishing for the Endure achievement? I'm on a quest to unlock Recon superdur and I don't want to team up with random nobodies who don't bother to cooperate.

Well it is Bungie's fault for hiring those writers. Look, I don't think Halo is an awful franchise but I really wish the story had more effort put into it. Everything else in Halo is just awesome but not awesome enough to be better than all the other shooters out there that's for sure.

*sigh*

Likewise, it was at the very end, the 117 part. The hero aspect of MC was delivered extremely well. A truly selfless hero, you rarely find those(unlike that jerk Marcus Fennix). The marketing was done extremely well for that game too, played on the fate of MC very well. I got the feeling as soon as I read the print ad that he was going to die. "A hero need not speak, for when he is gone, the world will speak for him." Loved the Believe campaigns as well. The one where MC arms his grenade is the best IMHO.

this one?

YouTube video

that is my favorite one too ✅
