having members perform services for more senior member is also not uncommon.

I get what you are saying, and I think there are reasons new religious movements have features like highly charismatic leaders and the like. However, if you define "cult" by specific sexual indiscressions or specific chores, the list of "cults" will be quite limited. For instance, Heaven's Gate was not like either of those, nor were the Branch Davidians, nor do I think the people at Jonestown.

Dont get me wrong though I am a live and let live kinda guy I couldnt care a less what anyone believe or does provided it isnt encroaching upon my life and I am sure thats how alot of people are too. I just find this a interesting discussion and yea you do have some very valid points and its a very controversial issue and probably will be for years....Not too sure about the davidians and people at jonestown isnt one of them into cloning and we all descending from aliens or something? Having said that things have been quiet on them fronts they could be just keeping to themshelves, most likely under surveillance by the feds and NSA(could be CIA but I think NSA is homeland stuff could be wrong).

Which basically just says that we just dont know they havent made headlines except for that cloning issue which in itself caused quite a stir.

It was the Raelians who are about cloning. Another group who do not fit the "evil crazies" definition of cult, but certainly the "new religious movement" definition.

Where the Davidians them aryan guys or gun supporters? I think I know now what you are on about. Murdered? Hmm that implies planned or some sorta premeditation was it not a stand off or something that went sour? I could be wrong.
