I picked it up yesterday and am playing it on hard mode with Vita Chambers disabled. (I hate the concept of not being able to die in video games, it just takes all the challenge out of them.)

Killed a few big sisters so far on normal mode. They're pretty tough, id say a little tougher than the big daddy.I suggest you start off on hard mode.
Big Daddies can be felled easily with patience and a steady trigger finger, however those blasted Big Sisters, I find myself having to throw everything I've got at them, and they still refuse to die without almost taking me with them. (I've killed one so far, and just got killed by another one.)
The game really took off at the end, went from great to excellent. The finale was amazing.
I think it's kinda tragic that this game has to be played in the overwhelming shadow of the original, because while it can't compete with the originality or wonder that made the original so great, it's an excellent game in its own right. Intimate, powerful, moving, and fun. It does justice to the original, and is better than most probably would have imagined possible, considering the first is a self contained game without a cliff hanger. They did a great job with this one. Should be proud.

The further along you get the better this game gets. I love it.
That's how the first one was.
I remember, in the first one, as I was going off doing something Atlas told me to do, and just stopped and thought... "What is my character's motivation, and why is he trusting Atlas? It's like Atlas says go, and he just goes"... Then I found out why and was like "OOOOH, now it all makes sense..."
Bioshock 2 is obviously better than Bioshock 1. I ain't saying the original is bad or anything close to that, I'm just thinking the game has some great improvements and a real great character to play as. Honestly which character do you want to play as, Jack or a Big Daddy?
Weapons in Bioshock compared to the weapons in Bioshock 2 make weapons from the original look like weak sauce. Why? Because the drill and the rivet gun is the way to go.
First Bioshock has a way better antagonist than the one in the sequel. Andrew Ryan >>> Sofia Lamb.
Bioshock 2 does have some way better enemies. Big Sisters are more fierce than your everyday Big Daddy, the Brute Splicers look like 2K Marin stole the Tank from Valve's Left 4 Dead series and that ain't a bad thing since it kinda looks like the Big Daddy vs. Tank showdown you always imagined it to be and what a surprise, the Big Daddy is the winner.
Best plot I am definitely going to give to is Bioshock 2. Witnessing the events and relationships involving Subject Delta and his little sister look very good. Kinda makes you have a different view on how much daddies love their children and what they would do to get them back.
Rent the game and so glad I didn't buy it. The story of the first game was just do damn awesome! Love the original good side ending and this one isn't as rewarding or emotional as the first.
Everything from controllers, sound, music, is good...but nothing that could over the original.
Good shooter but not worth owning. Rental for me.
Lack of a true final boss didn't surprise me at all, as it was one of the biggest complaints many had about the original - the out of place and generic boss fight. Even Ken Levine said later that he regretted having a boss fight at all, and felt the original game should have ended after the escorting of the little sister.
