Electronic Games and guys

@WD:

I would be careful about lumping compulsive personalities with fanboyism. Fanboys are illogically (and usually incorrectly) enamored with a particular product or character. Obsessive gamers (like me) simply play a game for hours on end. I love KotOR and Mass Effect, BfME, Age of Empires, Civ 4, and yes, even Halo, but I'm not a fanboy for any of those games. It is possible to play something for an unhealthy amount of time yet not be a fanboy. (I hope.)

Girls generally don't like violence as much as guys. Video games are usually always based around violence. When boys play with their dolls they are beating the shit out of each other. When girls play with dolls they are dressing them up or having tea.

Not all girls. I knew a chick once who, when playing San Andreas, was all KILL KILL KILL. Thats all she cared about.

But some do it all day. That cannot be normal.. 😕

If it's fun, why stop doing it?

If you've got the day off and a decent game, no reason to put it down.

You should buy your mother GTA4 for Christmas if she doesn't have it already, she can " KILL KILL KILL" a whole lot more.

She prolly already has it.

Because its better than watching TV.

You've reversed obsessive and compulsive. A fanboy is obsessed with a character. Someone who plays for hours on end is compulsive.

I think someone that plays for hours might just be obsessive, but it's pretty unlikely that someone's compulsive with a character...c-cause there's no verb to compulse all about 😐

It's common to be both. However physical actions (playing games) are compulsions not obsessions. Constantly thinking about something is obsessive.

Yes, but just playing a lot is not compulsion. If he doesn't feel the duty to play with little control it's not a compulsion, he might be obsessed with the games though and play them cause he enjoys them so much.

So, it's really more likely that it is neither and he just likes a game and there's neither obsession nor compulsion happening.

Compulsion is an end effect caused by, say, someone with a gun to your head. In this case, the compulsion would be caused by your obsession with games.

Unless you have no access to a game, it is extremely unlikely you could be obsessed with games without compulsively playing them when you can, so the term 'obsession' is really all that is needed to describe the issue.

If you are already playing the game, its extreme playability or additctive nature might be compelling, bit that would only be talking about the gaming session in question. If this is a long term issue, obsession is the cause.

Please don't judge me. I'm just trying to figure out why usually guys will stay on for hours on end.

The same reason anyone does anything for a long period of time, whether it be reading, working, sport etc etc

Psychological compulsion or an obsession that you keep thinking about and/or can't put it down. Yes?

I have read that there are many addictive type behaviors that come out in many different ways. Over usage of gaming, as it is called, could fit into that category. Could others include legal and illegal drugs, drinking, reading abusively and the like only be escapes from reality going a bit too far when over done?

I think that at this point it'd be best to just say that you're too old to understand. You should just accept that culture and society is evolving past your quuickly becoming obsolete outlook and morals regarding life and peoples' hobbies.

Could you just add to the topic please. Thx

I just answered your question to this topic for you. You should be grateful.

You didn't add anything to the conversation that would include anything but your opinion. What would be great is if you could add some facts. BTW, I am not condemning anyone for any behaviors. I, myself have a few... 😂
