So you have more respect for watchmen then any of the timeless works of literature that you have undoubtedly seen as movies? Now that's just silly.
1) Why?
2) I didn't say that.
3) The fact that you are simplifying it in such a way is further proof you don't actually understand what makes Watchmen different.

Basically you have been saying that Watchmen is too complex to make a movie out of, despite having seen movies based on some of the most complex and insightful books ever written without complaint.
And I've told you why Watchmen is different.
Are you simple?
Fight Club and American Psycho are not some of the most complex books ever written. They're essentially Little Red Riding Hood compared to Watchmen.

Plenty of other examples of great movie adaptations exist. Many on this list, IMO, surpass their novel counterparts. Others, critics included, agree.
Maybe it has been posted here already, I don't know, but still...
( to all those against it and willing to boycott it)
I might be going out on limb here but...
let's say by the time the movie opens, and someone says he liked it, are you going to keep quiet and just not watch it, or you going criticize him, criticize it and try to talk him out of thinking the movie's good?....
I'm thinking the latter...
If so... what happens to that "watch it before you rant about it"?....
As much as multilayer and "impossible to turn into a movie" Watchmen really is, the movie it's almost completed... someone must have found a way to make it... possible... whether it's a travesty or not, it will still be released as a feature length movie, people will see it, and some (if not many) will like it... it will be a water downed, dumb downed version of it (or not), but it shows promise of being a good film... at least that's why I get out of the trailer... the characters in live action... looks ok to me
... now, whether they managed to create a cohesive story around those characters (and be as faithful as possible to the source material) remains to be seen.
I don't understand Moore adamant aversion to comic-book movies. but that's his decision. I think if he were to get involve with some of those projects, something good may come out of it... but maybe it's cuz he knows not everything can be fit into a movie (somethings have to left out)... but still there are good adaptations out of long and complex books (and truth be told, thinking a graphic novel is above any literary work it's just ridiculous)
I liked "V for Vendetta". As a film, I enjoyed it, I loved Sin City, I pretty much enjoyed 300 (even if Moore says "it was racist, it was homophobic, and above all it was sublimely stupid"😉.
I like Moore works (the ones I've been able to read), I too think he is genius as a writer (my favourite being "The Killing Joke", even if he now dislikes it)... but I take Frank Miller's work over any other, any time.
If Sin City or 300 were turned into entertaining movies... I can't see why Watchmen couldn't at least be "mediocrely good"

I bet that it will go something like this:Spoiler:
The Comedian is murdered. Rorschach and Nite Owl team up, a fight here and there, Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach are the two most focused on characters, they go to Antarctica, big fight scene with Veidt, *BOOM*, end.Yeah. Every Moore movie is the same.

And yet, the Americans that this movie is targeting for the purpose of money, will be entertained.
Indeed

Nobody is saying it can't be mediocre. I doubt it can be very true to the GN. It may be a good film based on Watchmen, but that's not really the same thing, nor is it particularly worthwhile. Look at the films of League... and From Hell. There was literally no point using the source material, and League probably isn't even that hard to adapt faithfully.
I will watch it anyway, and don't really doubt anything I've said above will change.
I also don't see the reason for the word 'If' in your sentence. Those works are nothing at all like Watchmen. Sin City is basically a movie storyboard.
I mentioned Sin City just as comparison , then 300 being a Miller's work and Snyder being the director... and now Watchmen being directed by Snyder
If those Graphic Novels (that both have and ending) were turned into entertaining movies, then there's hope for the Watchmen movie to at least be as entertaining.
Now both of those works suffered changes. Watchmen will not have everything and some things are bound to be changed, or cut... It is impossible to have it all in the movie, but it's not impossible to turn it into a movie. The movie is almost finished. There are frames in the trailer recreating certain frames from the GN... but maybe that's as much as we get... but it will never be know until the movie opens
that's my point: not judging the movie until you see it. And if nobody have seen it, how can anybody say it's good or bad?.
It can be good, it can be entertaining, it can a great movie, or be another LXG, but it's not impossible... It will happen...
Even if is not completely true to the original, but ends up being good, then It would be worthwhile. I think it will be worthwhile, but that's just my opinion.
Right now the only thing that bothers me (I'm talking about we've seen so far) are the costumes... and that guy playing Ozymandias (I can't say anything about the actor, but he doesn't look the part, and his costume it's down right horrible).
The Black Freighter (which was cut) will be released as a DVD movie... now I don't know what else has been cut
everything else looks good... but that's the thing, it just looks good...
When I saw the Dark Knight last night, they had a Watchmen preview, and it makes it appear that it's mainly all about Dr. Manhattan, I mean, you only see Rorschach once in the preview. Ahhh I don't know, I just find it really upsetting. But then again, previews can be deceptive. I just don't know how they are going to pull off all the characters, and give them their just rewards.

As I said, it could be good. I just fail to see the point of bastardizing a work. If it somehow doesn't, then great.

Some said it was going to be about Rorschach, or focus too much on him, but the trailer shows all the other characters for the same amount of time... It's just that Dr. Manhattan is really the most captivating to watch in the trailer...
...It is true though, character development will be difficult to achieve in this movie...
