Thor's also been able to draw energy blasts into his hammer without spinning it (such as when he did against the Surfer) or brace against it to deflect direct attacks (like when he deflected Annihulus' blasts). He might just brace behind his hammer as BB's scream hits him to minimize the damage and then smack BB in the face.
