If whatever happened happened, then you couldnt, unless Jughead was actually a neutron bomb or something, then it cant go off where it is buried, or there would be no villiage.
But at least we know why the others in the village stopped being able to concieve if they were living in the village directly over the thing.

I reckon it cant go off.

It doesn't matter, whatever happened, happened... no matter what they do to change things, it won't... what they're doing it's what they are supposed to be doing.

Faraday realized this when he died, because it was always his destiny, he had to die because his mother shoots him. It just had to happened, he coming up with the "Variables", and the idea of the bomb, it happened before, and Eloise knew it, and she still makes it happen because it is what Daniel was meant to do... so is Jack...
