Oh and it needs to be said: someone, I think Pelosi, has said she hopes any new gun control enacted will be a "slippery slope". Disturbing.
I saw more than one media outlet writing articles about getting rid of the 2nd amendment, even one from the WaPo I think. Though even if that happened(it never will) then what? If we say it's impossible to go round up all the illegals in this country it definitely is not feasible to go round up all the guns.

Disagreed, both at home and abroad the POTUS carries more weight. How many watch Kimmel? How many watch the President? Not sure why we're having this convo. Are you being a devil's advocate type because you feel bad for Surtur right now? It's cool if so. You can PM me if you want.
I'm still not entirely sure the POTUS carries that much more weight at home from a social point of view (obviously I'm talking about the stuff they say, not what they can do, as the President can affect laws, whilst entertainers can't), especially in this situation, since Kimmel is literally being called 'America's Conscience'.
Idk though because I'm not American so I don't actually know how it all works over there. I do know in England that our top entertainers have much more social sway than our Prime Minister though, again, especially at the moment (our PM is a malfunctioning robot)

Faulty comparison and here's why: We don't expect illegals to turn themselves in because they're already "criminals" (your words), we do expect law abiding citizens to obey the laws of the land and turn their now illegal guns in. Cos that's what law abiding citizens do, obey the laws 🙂
Originally posted by SurturYou don't seem to get that up-in-arms when the POTUS does it though, so are you sure you're not allowing yourself to be a part of the hypocrisy that infects both sides?
I happen to think feeding millions of people misleading information is a problem. You see when Trump does it? The MSM is all over it. "America's conscience" does it? *crickets chirping*

just so we're clear: you are aware that our current sitting president is only there because of his TV celebrity status.you're probably used to politicians getting elected to office instead of game show hosts, so there is that cultural gap.

Fair nuff, I've don't the same at times.
I think you're giving WAY too much credit to this "America's Conscience" thing. Hell, I was mocking it in my first post on it to you.
I don't think Kimmel's swaying people in a direction they're not already pointing. He's a comic, nothing more.

right but my point is that the distinction is fading, and in the case of current U.S. politics it's pretty much non-existant.

Was CNN joking about the american conscience thing?

This is one of the biggest problems now, when Trumpers elected Trump, they simultaneously lowered the bar and set a new standard. We're going to have any assclown with a fortune and some fame believe they're qualified for the job. Sure Reagan was an actor by trade, but he went up the ladder and gained political experience before running for POTUS in 1980.
eg When shitboy Zuckerberg or Kanye run, Trumpers can only blame themselves. I better not hear any whining over it.
Originally posted by RobtardIt's true that that was just hyperbole courtesy of CNN, and also that Kimmel was preaching to the choir, but when the direction people are pointing in is one that is unhelpful, he only helps to strengthen that. There doesn't seem to be a rational non-biased side in the public eye from what I've seen, which worries me.
