Oh I also believe the biblical God, as he is in the bible, makes Cthulhu seem like a decent dude.
But then I also have this whole 'redemption arc' theory, about how God was brutal in the OT because he didn't understand what it meant to be human. Then he spent a while as a human as Jesus, realised that life is ****ing harsh, died on the cross whilst questioning his own existence, then when he was God again he was like "ok I'm gonna be chill now, being human is actually pretty bad at times"
But there's everything to learn from analysing the material with the OT and NT, so either way, approaching it literally is dumb. Sadly most Christians themselves take it far too literally
But I mean god killed babies. Not all first borns were babies, but some had to be.
I know not every Christian strictly adheres to the bible, but I feel like it's weasel ways to cherry pick. And I grew up enough around it to know that anyone serious about it does cherry pick.
Nobody talks about how you could be murdered for working more than 6 days a week lol.
Originally posted by SurturI think we've already been over this in the past, but your view is one rooted in hard physical reality: to God, 'killing' a baby was basically just giving it instant immortality, as the innocent child got to go to Heaven straight away. Applying human morality onto God is a mistake, especially as an atheist, as you expect God to have the same atheist outlook, which he obviously wouldn't

LOL@ that instant immortality. What a nice eldritch abomination.
Earning your immortality via an angel slaying you. Vampires are jelly.
I can cherry pick all I want, because my belief is rooted in a direct belief in the entity of God as a real thing that affects my life; I 'know' God exists, so debating whether he is 'good' or 'bad' is pointless. My faith gives me immense strength to be a better person, and my biblical knowledge is limited, so idk the large philosophical questions — you'd have to field them past LoB, he knows his Bible pretty good

But Azathoth is just there listening to his eternal music. He isn't laying down laws while also breaking them. God is lol. Thou shall not kill.
Originally posted by SurturAll of these are human terms. Once God spent time as a human as Jesus, even he questioned his own existence:
God, if the bible is truthful, is a corrupt awful being. Petty and jealous. A murderer.
“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
So even God questioned his own 'kindness', and then, when he became God again, he realised he had been cruel to his children (see: OT), and thus eased up on Man and let him choose his own path.
The NT is effectively the redemption arc of the OT 'cruel' God.
