Do you define cult another way? Genuinely curious if you disagree with what is presented.
If we're talking in a general religious sense, then a cult needs to be small, so Christianity in that sense isn't a cult. If we're talking about it being sinister, then I also would disagree. Christianity can be used to create specific cults, e.g. Jonestown and the Branch Davidians, but as Christianity is a larger network of interlinking faiths, then no, Christianity is not by any definition a 'cult'.

How is it not sinister to worship a baby killer? While also saying abortion is wrong, I will add.

I feel like in essence a cult is a bunch of brainwashed people.

Some Christians think f*cking Jesus and dinosaurs co-existed.

You're using 'Christian' in a very broad way. Like I said before, I believe the Catholic church has used the holy texts central to Christianity as tools for social control since its inception, but I don't think their influence has been particularly bad, tbh. People need some central meaning to their life, or things fall apart; better Christianity than, say, Islam.

That being said, I'm glad I wasn't raised Christian, and got to find it myself, as that means I truly have faith in the existence of God and the subsequent reasons and methods to living a good, prosperous and decent existence, rather than having them beaten into me.

I don't like the 'believe or burn!' approach, either. I think it has its uses, but it becomes less useful the smarter humans become.

I mean, I've answered this already in many different ways, so I'm not repeating myself again. Go back and read what I've already written.

I mean wait how does "believe or burn" have a use?

Specifically look for the stuff about you consistently judging God by your own atheist, hard realist stance. That should elucidate my general belief, maybe.

The same way that telling a kid that if they misbehave, the scary man will come to take them away, or whatever. Works early on, but when no scary man comes, they get wise.

Although it also works as a deterrent to major crimes / sins, in the same way that the death penalty does. Kill someone = death; kill someone = life in Hell. One is a lot worse, and I imagine it has done its part to stave off absolute chaos within mankind, just as an effective legal system does.

Also Surt, you do realise that as a conservative-minded American, all of your moral beliefs are rooted in Judeo-Christian religious philosophy, right? Like, literally all of them?

😕

hell deters nobody. all it does is provide a revenge fantasy to those powerless against injustice, the same way that heaven provides a reward fantasy

I dislike both of those approaches, and by the text, they're both un-Christian. Especially the whole thing of using Hell as a revenge fantasy

People have started using the term 'fashy' and it's honestly the most insufferable middle-class-anarchist pop-socialist shit
