Effortlessly gun down the people firing them?

They would have to come at them like in the movie and that wouldn't work.

What about reloading?

The Romans aren't going to wait for them to reload.

Also, he said one battalion against one million roman army.

The Romans at least fought with honor.

Guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. JFK.

The Romans fought in the day time. 😉

Little known fact: bows have to be reloaded after every shot.

That just makes them poor tacticians.

Watch the video and tell me how many flaming arrows you see.
😉

No, that is an honorable fight.

Fighting on a battlefield instead of occupying land like they are doing in Iraq.
That is not a war.

No, why would the modern soldiers have to follow the same tactics as ancient ones?

A bunch. They still have to reload more often than the modern soldiers.

No, that is an honorable fight.

And also a very poor strategy by modern standards, which is all that counts.

Did you watch the opening of Gladiator?

What are they going to do against flaming arrows?
Especially as many as they fire at once.

I doubt one battalion does much.

Catapults too. 😄

Opening Battle Address to the Roman Cavalry

Gladiator - The Battle (VIDEO)

Our troops haven't fought on a real battlefield in a long time. They just occupy territories.

to avoid the arrows get inside the humvees and vehicles or underneath them. hmmm...... the catapult might be a little more difficult to fend off, maybe spread out and use sniper fire to take out their operators.

Humvees aren't allowed. 😄

Just the weapons they can carry.

Thank god you're not in charge of anything.

😬 hmmm.... i guess the they could just use RPG's to take out the archers and scare them enough to run away...psychological warfare and all that jazz... i am assuming these are marines, b/c no other branch has a chance of winning due to incompetence. 😉
the marines can use their packs as protection from the arrows as well. i am not talking about the day packs but their actual field pack.

🙄 disgust

I'm glad you finally admitted that a modern military couldn't fight on the terms of the Roman military. 😄

because we arent incompetent.. 😉 we've advanced too far to fight and plan stupidly to match the roman empires war plans that take yrs to pull off. 😛

Is that why we have conquered so many lands and people?

Whoops the Romans did that. 😛

Also, they didn't have to occupy the land.
They just went in and took it.

The US hasn't been involved in the sort of empire building the Romans were since the advent of modern technology. Even with weapons that are considered comically primitive by today's standards the US took over the whole area it now rules.

the reason we havent conquered lands is because we give it back once we have won. their is also a major difference in occupying lands in order to effectively conquer and maintain lands, you have to kill large numbers of the population and induce fear into the local ppl. that is something we dont do, no matter what you hear on T.V. .

I guess America will be taking over Canada and Mexico next?

Why not build an Empire? king

Umm....What?

Bows don't fire as fast as machine guns.

The Romans weren't "honorable" if they crucified people and burned down villages. America has a set of engagement rules (aka "rules of honor"😉 and never "conquer" people.

And the USA military doesn't fight the same way as bunches of ancient barbarians do.

And no offense but it's unwise to base your entire argument on a movie.

Indeed. Especially considering the level of shock and awe modern weapons would induce in the Romans. A battalion of men dressed in strange, seemingly poor quality cloth is managing to kill en masses your friends and comrades using metal sticks that make a frightening sound and blow holes in to a man's body and armor from hundreds of yards away?

And that's assuming a battalion of U.S. soldiers would simply walk up to an enemy line, strategy and common sense be damned.

Yes, our country is the third largest in the world.

So because they can conquer the Gauls and other ancient civilizations they can conquer a country that has tanks and nukes? 18th century USA would PWN the Romans, let alone 21st century. Now a battalion I'm not so sure; how many are in a battalion (sorry for my ignorance, I'm REALLY into military stuff but I just forgot...was it 3000?)?

We are NICE so we just give back the land that we take (usually with ridiculous ease). So we have shown the might to take countries in a few days, we just don't keep them.

And indirectly the USA more or less controls the world via it's military and economic influence.

its usually ranges from 300-1000.

my battalion was 3000 strong but it isnt normal and are usually spread out where one half goes overseas and the other stays in the real to handle admin and repair gear or train.

Well 300 couldn't, but 1000 probably could.
