If thats the case then Neill Blomkamp better hurry up with that Halo movie.
He's officially given up with that unfortunately
There's been rumours that Speilberg read Beaties spec script (the guy who wrote GI Joe) and was "blown away" by it. That sounds like bad news to me. Plus speilberg hasn't been producing very good movies lately....
back on topic... I can't wait to see this tomorrow. It might just be the greatest sci fi movie to ever be released in the history of the universe. Or at least I hope so
Just got back from the midnight showing, I don't even know what to say.
This movie was fantastic. Seriously unlike anything I've seen before
Everything from the acting, drama, effects... it was all great. I can't believe this movie was made with a budget of 30 million dollars. It's mind boggling, especially considering the last half an hour or so is non stop action.
And the violence was just ridiculous, probably worse than Starship Troopers (a movie everyone seems to be comparing this too)
Now I'm not going to say its up there with "Empire Strikes Back" or that its the best Sci Fi movie ever made. In fact the ending was a bit predicatable and some parts were verging on being corny, but hell it was still awesome
God I could talk about this shit forever but I'm really tired. Neil Blomkamp is going to make it really big

Awesome.
I got a boner just reading your review.
Saw the midnight showing and it was better than I was expecting. But it had some problems.
1. The beginning - like the first 25 minutes or so - was a mess I thought. It presented the aliens in a comedic and silly manner and had me worried that it was just going to show them as being goofy for the whole move. Thankfully it ended up not being the case and later on they did a good job of humanizing them.
2. The love story sub-plot was very cliched, almost laughably so, and the dialogue that went with it was the kind of thing you'd hear a first time writer throw in, not creative at all. Almost like a self parody.
3. The social commentary was a bit hamfisted at times, but I very much like that a big budget movie at least HAD a message and actually explored a theme. That's a rarity and it was nice to see.
The effects were amazing for the part, not so much the costumes but the CGI. Maybe the best CGI I've ever seen. The mothership is just awe inspiring to see.
It was also kinda several movies at once, it started off as some kind of Cloverfield thing, a fake documentary, then it became a sort of "The Fly" homage, then it went down the road of normal action movie. But it combined these aspects well and ended up being pretty powerful and parts.
Solid movie.
