When he attempted to enter harry he almost killed him, the only thing keeping harry alive, as said by Dumbly, was the magic protection his mother gave him.

His point is that a wizard has many magical ways of protection. So we can never say with certainty that the wizards will not just block the desintigration.
And if they have never shown it, for the sake of this vs. match they have no defense.

That's a very blunt way of looking at it. We, by that logic, can say this fight could not possibly take place, because we never see mutants fighting wizards. The spell protego is a barrier of magic. What logic dictates that a mutants ability would penetrate that if another spell cannot?

Look these are the things we know from the movie.
1: Voldy dies and becomes something that can posses people, we know this because he posses Quirrel.
2: He says he uses the persons life force to help him stay alive. Tho he is able to leave the body and still not die.
