I'm pretty sure once they release the rest of the ranks, the experience you get from playing as Lt. Colonel grade 3 will carry over. Already heard that some people saw themselves as Colonels, Commanders, etc. when they played offline, but were reset to Lt. Colonel grade 3 when they got back on X-Box Live.
As for why they're withholding the rest of the ranks, I'm guessing it's so that others will have more a chance to catch up until whatever DLC comes out. Hopefully I'll play more again when that time comes, since now, I've just been doing the daily challenges casually.
Found an official answer on the cap. Feel a bit better about playing the game. Now I know im not wasting my time with challenges.
Once I hit the level cap, what’s going to happen to the credits that I continue to earn?
Luke: “Nothing, you’re still earning credits once you hit the cap and they are still counting towards your next rank. So, once the level cap is lifted, some players will shoot off into other ranks and get access to new stuff.”
Ok, so why is there a level cap in the first place?
Luke: “There’s a level cap in place for a number of reasons.
First, security: We’ve seen a bunch of games come and go where investment systems got exploited and broken early, completely throwing off the game economy (even though Reach progression is aesthetic only, it’s still important to us to preserve the ecosystem to the best of our ability) so one reason was certainly security. To use a hyperbolic example: If it turned out that teabagging players was giving mountains of Credits (try it, it gives nothing!), we’d have a failsafe in place to make a fix and continue the progression path
Second: We had some ideas on cool ways to lift it via communal effort.”

Also they said the cap will be lifted once the community hits over 117 million challenges. A new map pack has been announced featuring 3 new maps due to release in november 30.

Same here. Lately I have a "Quid Pro Quo" attitude. If I betray somebody(accidentally of course) and they let it slide, I'll let it slide if someone betrays me after that. If I get betrayed then I have no mercy.

Yeah man. Bungie is the reason I love Halo so much. They show so much passion and dedication for their games and community that its awe inspiring. Lots of developers need to start taking notes.

100% agreed. Not to mention challenges give people reason to want to boot teammates in firefight so they can kill all the enemies by themselves.

So I downloaded over 30 maps, including halo ce/2/3 remakes, brand new maps and even maps from other games like gridlock from GoW. If anyone's interested in trying them out for some fun chaotic custom madness just let me know so we can get a party going. how about it folks? Some of these maps are amazing. I never realized how well GoW maps would translate to Halo.
