That was an awful waste.

Loved the 1st one. It was a bit part of my 1999.
But the second and third movies just disappeared up it's own bottom and never came back. Hated the way that nearly all emotional involvement was severed by concentrating on third rate background characters as our "stakes are high" focus when we didn't know them and didn't really have much reason to give a shit about them..Horrible.

Well, LOTR did the same thing. They were going for the same kind of thing with the Matrix, lots of characters, etc..

Look, not that the sequels aren't without their flaws, I could pick 'em apart too, for being inferior to the first one, but that's not really what it's about. I mean, the first one built up so much expectation that I think no matter what they did, it was bound to dissapoint. But the sequels were simply meant to layer on more theology, philosophy, and just lots more damn good sci-fi fantasy excellence, which I think they did. The scene with Neo and the Architect (Colonel Sanders, lol) is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time and they connected it nicely to the first film with all the TV monitors.

Yeah but the "Characters in the Matrix (particularly in the sequels with the Zion poplulace) were barely fleshed out at all, especially compared to LOTR....so I guess that intended emulation was always gonna fail.

We differ a little in our feelings about those movies:
The scene you cite is the one is one of the most monotonous, awkward, tedious, self indulgently written piles of toss I ever saw and I think it was symbolic overall of the cold, souless, feelingless, grey toned sterile video game feel to the movies overall. (In all the ways probably not intended by the Wachowskis)

But then again with LOTR that was actually based on 3 books no doubt it was the same with deal with the novels so Jackson stuck with it.

Indeed!

^^ that is epic.

Yeah, but at least they're not over 3 hours each!! 😛

I can see that, too, but just the amount of nerd-ness that had to go into making such a premise is impressive to me (I'm not particularly good with understanding computers, but apparently the movies are pretty consistent with the way they actually work; even in it's mechanical, soulless, video-game feel! 😛 ). That scene is such a turning point, such a revelation in the course of the story that it has a profound impact, I think. Pompous, though the language is.

And the Chateau fight lived up to expectations, I think.. it's beautiful:

So if I presented a 5-10 minute monologue on the history of brake pads for trains between 1909 and the present in a monotone voice/rhythm, my nerdiness would turn that into a rivetting scene?

😛

The overly elaborate and grey delivery exposition wouldn't have been neccessary if they had a focused plot/narrative, but alas it was not to be. Sure the fantasy ass fight scenes looked good, and the concept/focus/pace of the 1st movie was great, I thought.. those sequels annoy me though and they went down in terms of acting too..

No, of course not, you silly baboon!!!

Because a brake pad malfunction wouldn't result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected by a shared illusory dreamworld and thus the entire human race!!!

jawdrop

Baboon? 🙁 Neither was Matrix, you... you...... well whatever the f*** THESE are: 😛

It was just a movie....and movies are meant to hold entertainment.
Epic fail in that regard on the architect scene, much of 2 in general and pretty much all of 3..

When Brake pads fail people actually like die in real life and stuff.

Hahaha... those things are awesome! The PEACE monkeys!! PEACE!!! 😆

I'd say it's actually quite epic, sir... and you probably should give it another chance. The story is dense and benefits greatly from multiple viewings, in my opinion. You realize with subsequent viewings that there really wasn't any other way to tell the story they wanted to tell and... it's actually pretty fu#king epic and profound. I for one am thankful they got ahold of the idea for a "Matrix" before some bafoon like Paul WS Anderson or Michael Bay did.. Phew!!

I remember the horror well.
I did used to give it multiple viewings....hence my conclusion.
Harold Perrineau's "Yess He caught her!" acting is burned indelibly into my mind as an example of Bay like depth and acting.

Excuse me, the line is "Shit, he caught her." 😠

Clearly you don't know as well as you think you do. 😛

It's a running joke in my family: "You've only seen the movie 6 times? It's like you haven't seen it at ALL!!"

Actually LOTR was ONE book, divided into three because the publisher at the time thought the book was too big for one issue.

Ok then

but my point still stands about what Leech said about minor characters.

Maybe my memory has protected itself by blacking out the correct line. Overacting that bad was never meant to be experienced by the mind of man.

Wookie's say the darnest things.

Yes. I do actually prefer the SW HS to the Matrix sequels.

It is earthier, grittier and more enjoyable.

YouTube video

Errrr.... okay.

No Holiday Special footage there.

But thats good otherwise the vid would then be 85 hours long.
