The way Lanterns are being treated doesn't harm a specific character though. It looks more like they're being displayed in the way Johns thinks Green Lanterns should. At least that's what I think. It's more Johns' opinion on a lantern's power level, not an act to downplay one character in favour of another.
Though I agree there are examples of what you mentioned.

And seeing as Johns rebooted the entire Green Lantern title, I go with whatever he says. It's different when he's writing a couple of issues on Superman and decides to suddenly take him down or up several levels. It's another thing when he's reinventing the Green Lanterns alltogether and what they are.

i'm not saying that just because johns has written certain characters a particular way, we shouldn't go with that. i simply disagree with his drastic [and seemingly negative] changes to several characters throughout the past few years.
imo, he could've been much more neutral with his ideals, and still have been just as successful with his pet-projects.
