STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Broken

Vera-Kin will stop Rianna just before she goes.

"I must tell you my concerns," Vera-Kin says. "I had to convince Colby not to leave. What happened last night, no matter if it was within your control or not, was obscene and should not have happened to any stable Jedi. Are you stable enough to keep with this mission?"

Vera-Kin looks for Rianna's response, hands on her hips.

"I'll be fine, I think..." Rianna replies. "I just...I want to get this done with and leave here, as quickly as possible."

Vera-Kin fixes Rianna with a hard stare for a moment, then lowers her head.

"Let me know if I should be more worried than I am," Vera-Kin says, going off to meet with Hirget at the Fort.

Rianna almost decides to share everything about her vision with Vera-Kin, but instead leaves to meet with Nehmen without saying anything more.

Almost...

Nehmen has amassed five squads of soldiers to partake in the riot control operation. They have been given the order to stay on standby once they reach the site of the rally, and armed with the proper equipment. In addition to light melee plating, they have been given reinforced riot shields and heavy blaster pistols.

Nehmen himself is foregoing the melee vest. He produces a small holographic device to show you the site and the set-up.

"We are going to make a perimeter around the rally," Nehmen tells you. "My hope is that our display will discourage the miners from doing anything rash. I want YOU to stay clear until things start happening."

He points out a taller building in the layout of the area, to one side of the rally.

"Hide in this apartment complex."

Hirget meets you inside Fort Ine, Vera. He has assembled a squad of soldiers for you, most armed with standard blaster rifles. The remainder have been equipped with sniper rifles, and one is packing a shoulder-mounted proton torpedo launcher.

"You will need to brief them on who your enemies are," Hirget says. "I thought you would do it best. I explained that they are to assist you in any manner you require. And that the risk is high."

"Hopefully, but I wouldn't count on it," Rianna says, looking over the hologram. "I'll stay where I can see the rally and where I can move quickly if needed. And I'll have my comm in case you need something."

"That it is," Vera-Kin says. "Thank you, General. If I can I will keep them from danger, but I trust they know the risk and that they are prepared to deal with the threat."

Vera-Kin will brief the soldiers on what they are being tasked with. She describes Rand and his henchmen to them, so that they know what their targets look like.

"Shoot to kill, no exceptions," Vera-Kin says. "They need to be brought down. I will handle them if I can, but I'll need your help!"

Vera-Kin wants the snipers to set up in buildings overlooking Astrune's place, and set up the troops nearby. Vera-Kin will hide with them.

"Good," Nehmen says. "Keep an eye for anything suspicious in the crowd, but stay hidden. I don't want you being there to start something off!"

-

The soldiers acknowledge everything you say with a "Yes, sir!"

There are some places that the snipers can set up overlooking the entrance to Astrune's place. The soldiers will be ready to act when you give a signal.

"I'm not going to 'start something off'," Rianna replies, slightly offended by that comment.

Whenever Nehmen decides they're ready to move into place, she'll go off to her hiding spot.

Nehmen is ready to move in when you are.

You head to the apartment complex. Like everything in this quarter of Ine, the apartments are rundown and have seen better days. Money has not seen this area in some time. It overlooks the Stain.

In the street in front of the Stain, a stage has been set up. A column of miners have gathered in the street, overflowing onto the sidewalks and into alleyways as they try to see the stage. On the stage is a podium, and behind the podium is Dalt, Vera-Kin's suspect.

He is shouting to his audience about the injustices they have suffered. You do not see anything out of place yet.

-

Vera-Kin, nothing is happening yet, nor do you sense anything. The park looks peaceful, luxury hovercars float by on the street.

Tineas steps out onto the porch, his arms crossed.

"Master Jedi," he says, with a nod.

Does Rianna sense anything?

You do not.

Dalt's voice rings out clear over the crowd in front of him, which is listening intently.

"We have become SLAVES in the eyes of the mining companies!" he shouts, gesticulating powerfully to emphasize his words. "To them, we are no better than the rock and soil that we toil in! I work DAY and NIGHT to harvest those precious, priceless jewels... just so they can make their profit and tell us to keep working, maybe we'll see the wealth someday if we keep at it. But NO! NEVER have we seen a single credit spent for our benefit! Who here has seen their credits? Who among us has been paid what we truly deserve to be paid?"

At this, the crowd boils. Miners start shouting, throwing their fists in the air, offering up comments of outrage. It is all confirmation that they buy into Dalt's show. Filthy, unwashed miners... your limited senses are almost overwhelmed with their anger and desperation and hunger.

"Who among us?!" Dalt repeats a few times, and the miners start chanting "None of us!" in disgust.

"Tineas," Vera-Kin says, eyeing him suspiciously. "I have come to provide extra protection for the Box and, by association, Astrune. Today may be the day that the Dark Jedi try to seize it and end her."

"Not very confident in her Guard, I see," Tineas comments.

Rianna continues to watch, keeping an eye on Dalt and the crowd, and continuing to sense about.

"I would prefer to be safe than let you see how you would fair against a lightsaber," Vera-Kin says. "That fancy machine of yours only works in that doorway. Easily bypassed."

"I'd rather take my chances," Tineas says.

-

Sensing is difficult for you with so many people about. This may require more mundane skills than that.

"For too long have we let the mining companies use us like this! This act of treachery by Dame Astrune, withholding our pay for selfish gains, is only the latest such act! Only the most blatant! You were all there when she refused to pay for new equipment that would make our jobs easier and safer. You were the ones who suffered when the tunnels collapsed because she wouldn't pay to have them reinforced."

Nehmen and his men are moving into position. It is less obvious on the sides, but some of the miners toward the rear of the assembly notice the two squads coming in behind them, shields raised.

Nehmen is at the fore; in one hand, a blaster pistol, in the other, a grenade launcher.

Is there somewhere where Rianna can move to to get closer but still out of sight?

You could move to a lower floor but it might limit your view. You are currently a jump's distance down to the street.

Hmmm, okay. Rianna will stay put for the moment.

Does anyone - other than Dalt - stand out to her?
