Unlike say Iron Man 3, where the changes to Mandarin had a purpose in the context of the story and the overall message the Shane Black was saying, nothing that was changed in Wolverine was done for any discernible reason. Why was Harada now longer Mariko's half brother and Shingen's half son? Why was he now an archer and no longer the Silver Samurai? Why was Shingen an impotent nothing of a character? Why was Viper and mutant snake women? Why was Silver Samurai a robot body armor? Why can Adamantium be so easily destroyed? Why why why? There was no reason or greater purpose to any of these changes outside of "entertainment value"... which obviously was less than effective because virtually every critic hated the last 1/4th of the movie.
Sad thing is there is a the workings of a truly great movie in there. I could be salvaged with two months of re-shoots to fix the ending and trip back to the editing bay.
Spoiler:
Wolverine should have been forced to kill a poisoned Mariko like in the comics to end her suffering. That would have book ended the movie and tied it in thematically with the Jean Grey plot and the theme of immortality that the movie was dealing with in the beginning. I thought that's where they were going with manifestations of Jean in the White Hot Room talking to Logan through out the movie and the inclusion of Viper as poison expert... but no.

Sounds meh.
just saw this.. i liked it a lot.. i have the story arc on which this is based upon.. i for one do not worry about changes because that always happens when comic books become live action films... this time around this is a much better film than X-O: Wolverine.. better action, definitely better story.. Hugh is always good as Logan.. the ladies, liked Rila as Yukio, Svetlana as Viper, and Tao as Mariko.
all in all 8/10

I was hoping for that as well. I thought that's where they going when Viper poisoned her. The thing with the claws was ridiculous as admantium should not be able to cut through adamantium, even if it's heated
The extra scene was pretty good. I can't wait for the X-men movie.
This movie was enjoyable. But, yeah, it suffered from too much deviation from source materials. There were too many changes for my liking. The Silver Samurai and Viper were the most disappointing with such drastic changes.
I'll say this, the character relationships and development were the best parts of this movie. The action was good, but no way compares to the character developments.

Or charged with strange energy.Cause I remember Wolverine getting shot in the head with an adamantium bullet in XO;Wolverine.Yet the bullet didn't penetrate his adamantium coated skull.Although yes it gave Wolverine amnesia.
