Should death be permanent?

Started by Original Smurph3 pages

Meh. People complain about not caring about characters deaths if you know they're gonna be back, but if it was always permanent, we'd never get to see story arcs around characters like Captain America dying. It would never be a discussion about whether Batman was gonna die in the next issue of Final Crisis. We know the companies would never kill major characters whose deaths would be permanent.

Suspension of disbelief happens either way. At least this way we get to see things like major characters dying and having impact on the story as a whole, thus adding (if done properly) to the arc, though we know they'll be back sooner or later.

Let's bring THIS on;

Who is DUE a death and/or whose death would make an epic story right now?

How's this for a non-answer 😛

I think they shouldn't bring back Steve Rogers in Reborn. It'd be really ballsy but I think marvel should keep Bucky as Cap and leave Steve alone at least for a few more years. I'd love to see a final twist in Reborn whereby Cap doesn't comeback, or is alive long enough to officially pass the mantle. But fans would probably be up in arms 🙁

But in direct answer to your question....

I wouldn't mind seeing one of the Earth based GL's die towards the end of Blackest Night. It could feasibly happen to any of them, except Hal. If I got to pick I'd probably kill off Guy or John.

I still say atleast keep them dead for 5 years. i'm tired of the 1 and half year deaths. And also some characters could be perfectly fine permantly staying dead.

yeah his would probably have the most effect and could be the best.

Same answer I have for everything in comics: if it makes for a good story, go ahead and do it.

Personally, I don't think death should be permanent, but I do think that killing characters needs to happen much, much less regularly. When Supergirl and Barry died during the Crisis, those deaths had impact because it had never been seen before. When a character dies in an "event" every other week, then it kinda gets to the point of "ho, hum."

I believe Thanos should stay dead.

The DCU is screwed because Bats died.

From Booster Gold #23.

They also made sure to kill Grayson so he couldn't pick up the cowl.

So basically Batmans prep is what holds the universe together?

Duh it only makes sense 🙄

Gee, and here I was thinking Wolverines healing factor was the ultimate power.

Logan's healing factor comes in second. Bats has the prep aura and Cap has the jobber aura. We see what happened to Marvel after Cap's death...a Secret Invasion and a Dark Reign. Bats and Cap = total universal powers!!!!

You mind if I post that scan over on Herochat? There's a Supes fanbag over there that would cry into his pillow to learn that Batman, not Supes is the King of the DCU.
