I am sorry to hear that, Dexx... though it's not actually a very complex set of affairs... Malbeth named Arvedui 'Last King' at birth and Malbeth is never wrong. You understand why that might worry people!
"Oh, Balrogs are all LONG gone!" says Gorlim, happily. "Good thing too!"
(Arvedui's arrival being delayed until you guyts get an answer on the Cardolan questions...)
Firiels smile dissapeared from her ice cold face.
"The reason we're here, m'lord, is to ask your father for aid. For a few months, my sister and I have been established in the realm of Cardolan, where pain, suffering and death have overwhelmed it completely. Their fighting forces are quite weak, I'm afraid. We've come to plead for aid. Without it, Cardolan will be gone."
"Indeed... though... everyone here dreams that we had the power of the days of Akallabeth..." says Gorlim. "When we raised a force so mighty that Sauron himself had to surrender to us... I reckon our forefathers could have dealt with a few Balrogs then!"
-
"Aid?" says Elendur. "For Cardolan? But... no. I am sorry., It's not possible."
Dwarf muttering? Scary. BTW, Gorlim is not lying, Sauron DID have to surrender to the Numenoreans, and they took him home as their captive... impressive stuff...
"Because there is nothing to be done for Cardolan," says Elendur. "What would you have us do, send an army in there? Where would we get a new army from? And why waste an army in a place anywhere where the Witch-King's armies are NOT?"
You can all be joining in on this conversation if you want.
(You were under the impression that you HAD seen the Witch-Kings forces in Cardolan, you know...)
"Cardolan is ALREADY lost!" says Elendur. "There is nothing to save. And yes, sending men there would leave us defenceless. We need every man- EVERY man!- on the lines!"
(You didn't know there were any lines either...)
"Of course, if the ELVES did their part..." says Lord Morsire. "But they do not even guard the road between Rivendell and the Last Bridge any more."
(I wasn't muttering about Gorlim, Ush, I was muttering about Elendur denying help)
Talin overhears the conversation about Cardolan and takes his leave of Gorlim.
"You seem to harp on the Elves," Talin says to Lord Morsire, entering the conversation. He then turns to Prince Elendur. "And Cardolan may be lost, but there are still numerous Cardolani camps that are trying to reach Arthedain. If you could send out small ammounts of your soldiers to help those camps get to Arthedain, where they would be protected, then they would be deeply grateful. They'd still be angered by the fact that you abandoned them."
I knew who you were talking about, Rex... I just thought Numenor;s past was worth pointing out.
"Then angry they will have to be," says Morsire. "The Witch-King's OBJECTIVE is the elimination of our armies. Any force we send into Cardolan will only draw ruin on those you want to protect. They stand a better chance as it stands.
"And in any case, we can spare NO MEN. If a man can fight, he is needed on the lines. Sending them to Cardolan is an utter waste. There is nothing to be done for them, Dwarf."
"Help from Imladris would indeed be appreciated," says Elendur. "The only reason the Witch King is moving at all is because your watch on Angmar has ceased."
"If your implication," says Aranarth, "is that we have abandoned Cardolan for selfish purposes... I can only assure you that nothing is further from the truth. If we had the power, if we had ANY option at all, we would move to save at least some of those people. But Morsire is right. We need our men on the lines oppoising the Witch-King. Unless any forces of the Witch-King actually ENTER Cardolan there is no practical way for us to oppose him there and opposing the Witch-King is all that matters. The only selfish ones are those from the part of Cardolan that remains intact yet does not help it's own."
Again, you are confused by their apparent denial that he has forces there...
