Unfortunately, there are many religious extremists in the world, with the primary culprits being "professed" followers of Christendom, Islam, and various extremist cults. Extremists have always been present in religion. Because of these radicals, much of the world views religion very negatively. However, there are many true followers of these religions that live chaste and moral lives, trying their best to live how their God instructs them to live.
As far as why the Bible is silent on sciences, such as Astronomy, I would argue that such knowledge is inconsequential in a Book of Faith. The Bible is a narrative history of the Hebrew people. Within its pages, God reveals Himself to mankind. He sets forth a code of laws that the Hebrew people must follow. In the Old Testament, God formed a convenant with Israel to be its secular and spiritual ruler. In essence, the ancient Hebrews were bound to a Theocracy, with God as the Sovereign Head of State. God's people were commanded to live according to the law. Violation of the laws required punishment. The Levites(Hebrew priests) performed daily sacrifices to the Lord for the remission and forgiveness of sins. If you study how the tabernacle is designed, the items these priests used were designed to be built and placed in a precise location. If you diagram the exact location these priests placed these items in the tabernacle, it forms a replica of the Cross...well over a thousand years prior to Christ actually being crucified on a Roman Cross.
In any event, the Old Testament covenant was a means to show the people that they could not live up to the law based on their works. It is impossible for any man to live up to the 10 commandments...God knew that..and wanted to show mankind that. God eventually created a new covenant with all mankind...Jews and Gentiles alike. I'm not trying to proselytize...so, don't think that. However, the Bible says that the Second Covenant is covenant through Christ. Christ was the only man to live up to the law unblemished. The Bible said it was not possible for the blood of goats, or any animal to cleanse the sins of man. Since a man sinned(Adam), then a man would have to die(Christ)..and pay for the sins of man. Since Christ lived a perfect life, He alone was qualified to die and pay for that sin. This is called the Second Covenant. The old testament laws no longer apply to man today. Of course God commands us to live a moral life, and follow a holy life to the best of our abilities...but, "born again" Christians are not judged based on works...they're judged based on whether they accept the Christ, the Second Covenant. However, this does not give Christians a license to do immoral acts. A Christian who does this will not be "blessed" in life...meaning God could allow hardships to overwhelm a Christian(financial matters, legal matters, etc.) Also, God allow faithful Christians to earn various crowns on the day God calls home the believers. An unfaithful Christian will not earn a crown...and therefore will be embarrassed on that day.
With that said, and getting back on track concerning Astronomy in Scripture...God does not reveal all things in a Book of Faith. Astronomy is an intellectual pursuit..not a spiritual pursuit. God is more interested in bringing non-believers into fellowship with Him. He is not interested in providing details of His natural creation. God blessed man with an intellect. As you can see, man uses his intellect today to study astronomy and other sciences. The Bible is a book of Faith, something that is meta-physical and can't be measured by science...that's why God chooses to remain silent about such matters in the Bible.

I submit to your Mormonism, which had in its doctrines since it's beginning that there are so many other planets out there in the universe that they numbered like the sands of the sea: an idea that was mocked and laughed at as we were thought to BE the one and only planet with life and God's sole focus/purpose.
If you guys can't tell, I'm really sold on the LDS church. 😄 It has faults, but the positive greatly outweighs the negative by a ridiculous amount.

No, i don't know them by face or name, My dad works for the police. I see multi reports of sex abuse by all types of people, gay or not.

No i have nothing agesnt any religon, not at all. I once believed in god, but i am aloud to believe what i want, just like you. But christians are one of the biggest groups i know of that hates gays. I don't look down on there beliefes or anything because if they want to have a god let them.

2. people walk up to you on the street and go "Hey, what's up?I'm straight, but I'm really into little kids. My name? Pfft, that's not important"
3. Your dad comes home from work and proceeds to tell you "Locked another one of those straight men who're into kids today", or "Locked another one of those straight women who're into kids today".
4. Your dad leaves police reports lying around everywhere, which just happen to be child molestation cases, which just happen to be about straight men and women who're into kids
