It's just so they can earn money from what they perceive to be the "boy" market.

Disney tried for years and years to establish their own comic book affiliate, but were virtually ignored by the rest of the industry. Now they have one of the two most important American comic book companies patrolling their front-yard.
Marvel Films and their animation wing were always dangerously close to financial disaster if they had serially released 2-3 Punisher:War Journal type-flops, now they got the pockets to be as edgy as they want without worrying about bankruptcy. I say both sides gained pluses from this merger.
