Galder was going to talk to Trogan, but now he's more interested in what is going on with Xavier.
"Alright, what the hell is this?" Galder asks Xavier. "Out with it, man. You've got something out for Trogan, and you want to cancel the fight? You'd better have a good excuse."
(And yeah, that's not any different than normal...)
"Well, the fight is waste of resources, we certainly have some interesting individuals here. I wouldn`t mind taking both Torvus here and Epirean I betted on as my bodyguards." Gallador grins.
"Alternatively, we could exclude Trogan and his followers from the choosing and help him replace Alderman as ruler of Kos. It would extend our power base on this world, provided Trogan would be loyal to us."
Xavier glances from side to side.
This should be a hoot Xavier's dark side thinks.
"We've come to the conclusion that perhaps we have been going about this the wrong way. Something Trogan said has changed my mind. Here we have a vicious powerful race of warriors and hunters. Does that description not remind you of another race we come in contact with a lot?"
Xavier pauses for a moment, "Killing these people only serve to waste resources which we do not have a lot. If you had 10 very good pieces of fruit would you throw away 100 average ones and risk starvation. No I'd think not. Perhaps it is time for us to talk with the Eperians see what their nature is, help join this into a mutually beneficial pairing. Forge them into a weapon we can use besides game and sport."
"Make them an offer they can not refuse."
Xavier does follow the idea that the weak are weak and fun is fun but he also thinks there is room for improvement in eperian relations.
"A chance to find out what they really want and what we can give them. But we don't have just stress relief here. We have a chance to level the playing field. We've already seen how a race with a hunter's mentality can be lethal to even us. The Osokan's have proven that."
"I want to talk to Trogan and see what we can up with."
Well, again- this time from the savoir-faire crowd- you aren't sure about a hunter mentality. ANy people oi vague snetient intelligence and of reasonably physique- bith apply to the Epireans- are going to work out that taking down larger beasts is better done as a team than solo.
The thing with the Osokans is that the Hunter was the pinnacle of society; the lauded rulers. They don't even have a military, just the Hunters of the various Guild chapters.
The Epireans have thge equivalent of a milatry- the guards inservioce to each chief. Already we have also seen how one of the more powerful Epireans, from the cities, has come to power on an economic basis. This would never happen on Lanzar.
On the other hand, Epireans are a noticeably strong species and certainly thick-skulled.
In a way, Trogan's question does reflect s truth about what you want from the Epireans. If it is absolute loyal muscle, you have that from Firak. There are alternatives but they all have their issues.
It would have to be a long term goal. Most of them simply fear us but cooperate with our domination on Epireus because we are lethal fighters and have some of the clans on our side.
Is a unified Epireus even something we want? What if they unify and then turn against us? We'd have a kick-ass army of strong, durable fighters, sure, but what if they stopped liking us? What if they stopped needing us?
We'd have to find a way for them to unify without seeking independence from our rule.
Galder is all for supporting Trogan and his Fighters, obviously, but that is more of a selfish aim...
I think we need to cultivate a particular mindset. Ruling through corruption is good but if we can get the society to universally agree on something only can provide and provide a lot of it will go a long.
In particular I was thinking their sense and need for war and victory and battles. Basically create a warrior society. Because there is something we should be able to provide them with, battle and a chance to see the stars.
