In the EU, he uses pure brute force and man-power to make his way out of the Sarlacc. IE he's not an incompetent butt-nugget in literature, as he is on screen.

Jetpacks, when malfunctioning to the point that they dont work (or work unexpectedly when jabbed by a stick) get you killed, it might be time to start thinking: "Malfunctioning Jetpack = A rendered useless jet pack".

Yeah well while flying through the air into th Sarlaac's mouth, I highly doubt Fett was considering his options on buying a new jetpack.
