The 'he can't fight at full without giving himself away anyway,' is I think the main thing. Gray is probably stronger than Jellal limiting himself so much (And I think Gray's being underestimated a bit- he did beat Ultear, one of the strongest of the 7 Kin).

Also, he does have to be alert for the dark energy, and isn't an official FT member. Everyone on the team wants to get even for Lucy, and Jellal barely knows her.

He was found out but one of the council guys covered for him and said he was Edoras Mystogun, with a warning about scramming before he caused Makarov any trouble.

So finally got around to reading the manga and I am up to the bikini contest between Mira and Jenny... I don't mind the fan service but...I want to see more of Mira kicking ass damn it. More and more Grey looks like the better choice...Mira being so ditzy and suff facepalm

Yeah that fight pissed me off. Nonetheless Mira is still an S class mage and would've been a better investment IMO.

Mavis could've given Cana Fairy Glitter again and had her compete

I don't think the sexual innuendo is even being subversive or euphemistic, anymore. This manga is the closest I've seen any shonen manga get to being seinen.

Sooo.. why Grey and not Mirajane? or Cana with Fairy Glitter? Natsu and Gajeel, sure I can understand since they are dragon slayers, but Grey? Really? COME ON!

Gray still exists for whatever reason. They have to make him plot relevant somehow. He will probably lose to build tension anyway before NAMAKA PUNCHU!

He did beat Ultear last arc, remember! And he's got excellent teamwork with Erza and Natsu and it's a team competition.

And there's the maker magic vs maker magic thing.

TBH i think Grey will be a powerhouse whenever FT reaches the end game.

Ultear beat zeref she should have had no problem spanking nude boy

Gray's really not weak. I mean, Ultear was probably the second strongest of the 7 Kin, behind Azuma.

Ultear beat a Zeref creation, not Zeref himself. I could be wrong.

He beat ultear becuase of plot

He may have gotten an opening for his winning attack due to her flashing back, but he was still dishing out plenty of damage before that, things were going back and forth. Remember the only reason she was in the water is he tackled her off a cliff, and the last attack was strong enough to beat her.

Gray is indeed sounding like the better option as time goes on. Still think that Mira would've been a better insurance policy though despite Gray's win over Ultear.

It would've been funny if FT got Gildarts to compete. Afterall Jura's allowed 🙂
