To those who live on their own/without guardians....

When did you move out?

I want to prove my mom wrong that I don't have to wait until I get married to move out of the house. I plan on moving to next year to new york city. Hell, I doubt I will get married anytime soon. I'm 18 and I feel that it's that time coming for me to have my own freedom. I'm aware of responsibilities as I have to help pay rent. -_-

from what I see on forums you are an immature ass. Don't do it.

I think Jacope is a pretty cool guy. eh soccers balls and doesn't afraid of anything.

Legally you obviously don't have to wait. You are 18 you can leave, perhaps it would be of advantage though to stay a while longer with your parents?

1) I have a job.

2) I balance that out with college and maintaining my scores and grades.

3) I pay close attention to my credit.

4) I don't have a car because I do not want to spend money on it every month or worry about it. I take the bus or walk.

5) I help pay rent. (200 a month...to live at home with MY MOM so I don't live for free)

I think you are getting me mixed up with someone else. And it's ok. ^_^

If you're trying to convince him that you are capable of doing it, then why don't you just do it?

I didn't mean you personally, I don't know anything about you. I meant it is something to consider to perhaps have a better start into life or enjoy "easier" years. If you want to go, and can go, why not just go?

Good luck. But nothing wrong with your parents wanting you to stay.

I will.

Which just brings up this question out of standard curiosity followed by what I posted when making this thread.

When I turned 18, I joined the army, and left...

Why NY? $$$$$

I left originally at 18. Found that I had it MADE at my house and moved back. Left again at 19-20, And I'm doing fine.

It depends, really.

If your parents aren't unreasonably controlling (like mine were at times), then do NOT move out. It's much better financially and academically. There's nothing wrong with living with your parents until you get done with school. In fact, the "sytem" is pretty much setup that way in the US. (I think the benefits stop at 24, if you're a full time student.)

If your parents are controlling (likely, since your are latino), and you can't stand it, move out now. You don't know how awesome freedom is until you move out.

I agree.

It is incredibly expensive to live on one's own. My sister lived with my parents for the majority of the time she was at university. Then when she was able to move out, she was able to build the house she wanted.

I moved out when I went to the army, at about 21? Came home, and moved out fully when I was about 22.

Loved living at home though, didn't cop any flack about it - coz it was just my father and I. He was hardly home so I basically lived by myself, only difference was that he paid the bills lol. The sweet life, wish it could still be that way to this day. Bills are a ***** to pay. Eventually moved out because hubby wanted to move somewhere where the lawns were easier to maintain X_x

I graduated high school in 1998, left for Army basic training 2 months later, and I've been on my own ever since.

I live in a box

NY is really expensive. Moving there first is a bad idea.

Nah.

He lives in CA, I thought. If he lives near LA, living costs would be about the same.
