STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Chains

"Keep an eye on him outside," Wentar tells Vlad. "I doubt I will be too long."

Assuming Emso has no complaints Wentar will go order a drink, assuming he has the credits for it. 😛

"Seems like business is going well today, eh?" he says to the bartender once he gets his drink.

Once he's a little more comfortable he goes on to say. "So I heard a rumor that the Srum has got Hanza working for 'em. Tell me, is there any truth to that?"

"Ehh who's to say what's true or not!" the bartender says. "I can ehh tell you that a-yes, it's a rumor. Seen him walking around the market I have, a few times, always alone. Dunno about working for the Srum... very possible!"

"Indeed," Wentar says with a nod. "So what other rumors or gossip are flying around nowadays? Surely you must hear a lot of things in your line of work."

"Oh, certainly!" the Toydarian laughs. "I am a bartender, yeah? I heard that the Srum've gotten hold of a, ehh, Jedi Knight who came snooping around here. Short paunchy guy, passed himself off as a smuggler. Got caught sneakin' about the ehh lower part of the station. Nobody's allowed down there but Srum-types."

Why would Altar be fishing around in maintenance...

"A Jedi? That's fairly serious stuff," Wentar says. "Any word on what they intend to do with him?"

The Toydarian laughs.

"What do you think they're going to do, ehh?"

He makes a throat-slitting motion accompanied by a grotesque mimick of a slicing sound.

"I expected as much, still, can't help but wonder what kind of trouble that Jedi caused when they were trying to take him in... Anyway, what can you tell me about this Loj'oon fellow?" Wentar asks. "I hear many things said about the guy and I can't make heads or tails on what's true and what isn't."

"You can say that again. Never have I seen the Srum so mobilized! He killed many but someone shot him down. Rumors again, but some say it was Hanza.

"Ehh, what do you wanna know about Loj?"

"From what I've heard of him I wouldn't be surprised," Wentar agrees.

"Well for starters I've heard whispers that he started out at the Srum as a Slave. Honestly it seems pretty ridiculous to me, but still I have heard people claim it's true."

"Ooh, not a rumor! Loj'oon definitely was a slave. Really not surprising, ehh, he's pretty timid for a slaver. Not a nice guy, no no, but not so brutal as mighty Negrin would be!"

Does Wentar know anything about this Negrin? Savoir-Faire 2, Charisma 5.

Oops, left out a letter. It's Nelgrin. And you have not, though the Toydarian tells you why.

"He's up and coming, you know? Not big news yet. But he will be. Violent guy, very brave! You don't want to cross him. He's the other guy rumored to have taken down the Jedi. It'd do a lot for his reputation, ehh?"

"Probably," Wentar says. "So how did Loj go from slave to... well if I heard right, head of this station?"

"Killed the last owner of the station," the Toydarian says. "Also his owner. He took control of the command center in a small uprising, used that to secure power. The Srum were fine with it, his owner was running this place to poodoo anyway."

"Quite a swift, but effective, rise to power," Wentar says. "Still, surely there were objections to an ex slave running this place."

"Oh, tons. He had no qualms with getting rid of his opponents. He, ehh, doesn't much like slavers. He's a walkin' contradiction."

"So then what's the deal with this market going on? I saw slaves from seemingly all over he galaxy," Wentar says. "Surely he'd aim to minimize that and focus on profits elsewhere if he dislikes slavers."

The Toydarian shakes his head.

"One Rodian can't, ehh, change what the Srum are about. This is their retail outfit, that's all. Good selection, though. Got my cook here at a gooood price, heh! But yeah, he's tried to change things. Doesn't let just anyone buy slaves here."

"Oh really? What has he changed?"

"He keeps track of his buyers very closely. Usually slavers with bad reputations don't show up here again. By bad I mean, ehh, abusive. Real bad guys, like this, ehh, Nelgrin I mentioned. They don't get along too good."

The Toydarian considers something.

"You, ehh, gonna pay me for dis, yeah? I gave you lots of 'rumors,' don'tcha think?"
