"And what are you looking to gain from this, precisely?"

"First, I want to know all she knows. Then I'd rather like to get hold of wht she wants. Depending on what it is of course; we'll have to work that out later."

Hey Ush when Xavier was talking with Eller. Eller made it sound like she had some very troubled years and that Adelmo helped pick up the pieces right?

"Would there be any reason for Adelmo not to put her in the link. Possible loss of power, fear of something happening?"

No, he's not sure about that- but Eller is important enough to Adelmo that she lets her be her own person.

"Adelmo was the Chief Librarian; in control of all their history. And it so happens that Thalos aqs directly in the invasion path of the Sith in ages past. There is a lot of Sith history in those parts of the galaxy, if you know where to look."

"Did they fight against the Sith then? I understand that this is the event that changed their society?"

"She simply may not function as well. And Adelmo mostly uses the link for physical purposes. The Thalossioans have a special position for Seers, and unusually they mostly work alone- using their stones."

"Do you know anything about those stones and why they use them?"

"Possibly. But there were no obvious answers I could find. Other cultures in the region have been affected even more strangely. But I do know this- it was in the Library that Adelmo first saw the words 'Syphar n Kalar'. Like what you found on Gondekorro, she had something very rare indeed. A contemporary source corroborating the possible existence of that myth. Not even the Jedi have anything like that, though the Republic may have had information about it on Cassilis before Katai destroyed the vault there."

"Oh that's very simple- it's a primitive belief system. They think the stones tell them the future, whereas in fact the Force subconsciously guides them to throw them in a way that matches the messages they feel they can get from them. No different from us dreaming the future or sensing upcoming event; just focussed differently. I've seen it in several cultures."

"She found information about it in the library there?" Rianna asks. "Do you know what about it she found, or is that part of what you're after?"

"Well hidden, but yes. This is not a lending library, you understand. It is akin to the Jedi Archives."

Sadly he does not know, no.

Aww, okay.

"Did Adelmo talk with you, her mentor, about her discovery? I doubt that this information is still to be found by Thalos.

I also understand that Adelmo is going against the original teachings of her people. I understand that they are usually behaving in the way which is not that far from the Jedi, or am I wrong on this?"

"What do you think Adelmo is going to do now?"

"Did you ever get to visit the Library there when you were on Thalos, then?"

"It is utterly forbidden for men to consult work in the library there."

...

"Though actually yes. But I did not learn anything of great use, sadly. Their history is a mess; the Sith destroyed their records at the time. They just about remembered the Jedi and that was it."

Edana suddenly feels very lucky that Kuylen kept her from Adelmo in her youth or her current existence could be very different. She thinks back on the eerie ladies in waiting and shudders.

She perks up from the corner where she has been sitting looking quietly bored for the duration of the conversation. "Sorry, let me get this right. After pulling that stunt in front of Adelmo so that she now hates us and clearly will not trust us not to betray her, you want us to somehow get back on her good side, follow her manipulative quests through and then at the end of it hand the prize over to you? Are you completely insane? Why the hell would we do that?"

"Ah, Edana..." says Ascar. "Kuylen told me about you- that he had found a natural. You and I have a lot in common. I had hoped to meet you on Malastare, but it was not to be. I must admit to being surprised to see you; I had no idea you had joined up with these people.

"You don't need to get on her good side- with Katai gone, she simply needs you, and that is as close as she ever got to you anyway. As for handing the prize over- let's wait to see what's being played for before we worry about that. There's always an accommodation to be made.

"In the meantime... I can be very useful to you all..."

"Besides teaching the link trick, what other things can you help us with?"

"Well now. How did I know that you had stolen a shield generator on Newhaven? And that you were on Selene and then Datura, looking for Kuylen?"

"Just to put some things in order, what happened after your initial meeting in Adelmo and did you meet her again?"

Ascar left when the war started and has not seen her since.
