Yeah, the Speed Force is really something that belonged in the pre crisis era. Flash is like the modern version of Supermans "pull powers out of your arse" as the plot demands.

It does everything from protecting his body and clothes from friction burn, to keeping his bones from snapping when he hits someone as tough as Superman, to keeping him from burning calories and needing to eat (In his post crisis race with Superman, he needed crowds of people giving him food because of the calorie burn. The Speed Force invention removed this problem..)
And he can extend these properties to other people/things.

Ah, I see. I kinda figured he could protect himself with his own energy, but I didn't know he could extend that to others. I don't know if DBZ characters have that, because I always see them carrying normal people away slowly.
