That should be the criteria for moving up in the tiers thread: if Digi can't beat him in a tourney, he must be too powerful for that tier. Because, ya know, in a fair fight I'd win every time.

Yeah, Kang has crazy tech/prep based feats .... but he also gets beat up by Captain America whenever it gets down to the business end of a super-scuffle.

I'd question putting him into the herald category as he's really just a time travelling evil Batman with better stuff (on average)

(yes, I did just use the word "just" when comparing Batman-esque characteristics ... get over it fantards!*)

😛

*This of course means Batdude and his ilke.

I would like to try out a tournament if one starts up. I had a lot of fun following Leo's.

I'm thinking about starting a Mixed Genre Tourney if that would be acceptable. If so then I think I'd make it where you could use any character between Street and Low Meta according to this thread:

I just can't imagine it working.

Illadelph had such a tournament on his forum. I believe it was comics and manga.

For instance, trying to quantify Manga feats by comic book standards (or vice versa) would be challenging for both the contestants and the judges... On that note, it would also be hard (imo) to find multiple judges who aren't biased one way or the other, and are willing to thoroughly think their decisions through.

Not saying it couldn't work, but the host would have to be very picky/specific about every single aspect of a tournamnet like you're proposing.

I can be picky.

I'd put in a speed-cap for sure and I'd avoid giving too much prep time, just for starters.

Basically what Galan said. We've done mixed-genre, and it can work. But it's awesome for the few who have detailed knowledge of whatever non-comic character they're debating with, and awful for everyone else. And given the number of people involved in any tourney, it's awful for more than it is awesome for.

Also, it has traditionally been hard for judges to vote for those whom they have little understanding of. You won't be able to find judges versed in every character drafted in a mixed-genre, and so this mechanic actually ends up handicapping those who use the tourney's freedom the most.

Then perhaps a system could be implemented whereby a mixed genre character must be approved and recognized by all judges involved. That would limit the choices but there's still plenty of non-comics characters that we're all at least a little familiar with.

Holla at me if you get this up and running OV. I'll help where I can.

Eh, I think he's exaggerating. The burden of proof is on the contestants to show what their characters can do, not the judges to figure it out.

Want to be co-host?

Good freaking luck with that. Again, you could do this, but it would end up infuriating participants, because some legitimately under-the-caps picks would get banned because they have 1-2 hardcore followers on the forums and no one else.

Your best bet is just to find knowledgeable judges and hope for the best. An imperfect solution due to what I mentioned earlier, but a start.

If it happens, I'll offer to judge as always, but with the caveat that if it's not, say, Star Wars characters I likely won't know any of the mixed-genre people.

Don't want to jinx your tourney by having me co-host. I seem to have a curse of my judges or participants bailing on me just before the finale. When I only judge things seem to go smoothly. I could give you pointers and ideas though.

I'm with you on that one. But it would even be hard to quantify some Star Wars feats by 'mainstream' comic book standards. For instance, Vader once used his TK to shatter a thick chunk of Mandalorian iron (which is one of the strongest materials in the SWU.) But how am I to know what Mandalorian iron is comparable to where mainstream comic standards are concerned? It could be comparable to titanium, or it could be comparable to adamantium... Can't really be proven either way.

I imagine that same type of problem would come up quite a bit in a tourney like this.
