Guys in rubber suits.....no thanks.
I'm not asking for rubber suits. What's with the straw grasping?
I'm asking for a Godzilla movie that demonstrates his power. A movie with him as that force of nature bringing it's wrath down on mankind as a consequence of nuclear testing as the trailers implied. This movie is called Godzilla. Just Godzilla. Yet, ironically, it's not about Godzilla. It's like a Jaws movie not about Jaws.

I'm okay with the other Godzilla movie, Just not the Showa era ones where it got really cheesy

As I mentioned in prior posts...essentially, I felt mislead by the marketing. I expected (generally): Godzilla rises, attacks cities (plural, yes), military tries to stop him. As they're formulating plans for new defenses, the mutos begin to make their appearances and fulfill their damage quota. Finally, when all seems lost, the monsters fight, Serizawa sees the big picture, and Cranston is still alive by pic's end (or he could've died then).
hmmm...that wouldve been a very good plot line.

The muto fight still would've been a fine main act, imo, but after the combined military of several nations had its few rounds with the titular character, whilst he was laying waste to city after city after city...

The film would've staled itself out before the final battle the same way all three Transformers movies did (on top of their increasingly high pile of flaws with each sequel). If the amount of blatant frontal shots is all that contributes to screen time for you, I don't entirely agree with that on a stylistic level, considering the style of the film itself. Whether or not you appreciated it is your opinion, but I still say that even though I've only called this film 'pretty good' as a final verdict, it's also the best take on this type of style in a long freaking time.
To quote myself from said other forums: The fact of the matter is that Godzilla is a 60 YEAR OLD film icon. WE KNOW what he's about, and to just focus on him that much more just for the sake of it is pointless, redundant, and in a way, kinda tasteless in the same way the Jaeger vs Kaiju jazz in Pacific Rim felt to me by the final battle, not counting that the Jaegers were hardly portrayed in each scene beyond getting half-destroyed within the earlier segments. Godzilla, by comparison, only went to higher and higher stakes throughout the climax, and he exuded such a No-Bullshit attitude all throughout that just him shooting his atomic breath was more entertaining to watch for me than 90% of any of PR's action scenes. Bear in mind, that's not me criticizing Pacific Rim, just me saying I preferred Godzilla's take on the style it went with compared to how Pacific Rim went about its own by the end. It's really an apples-and-oranges approach with these two films, whereas I think Attack on Titan is a far more franchise with a similar (albeit LEAGUES inferior imo, but I digress) premise to that of Pacific Rim.
So, I much preferred that they put a little bit more effort to solidify the MUTOs on a plot standpoint as much as they did instead of risking a Transformers 2 route of overcompensation. It's not making Godzilla a peripheral character, it's GIVING GROUND to the new monsters, while smoothly re-establishing Godzilla's main character status by the end, and alot of my favorite Toho Kaiju in the past had that ie Destroyah. Just because it's officially a new continuity doesn't mean it has to force its pace to such tensionless measures as a portrayal that really just amounts to running away and getting shot at (ie, '98 Zilla), because tension is something that I felt was the most constant feeling in this film, which only ever rose every time either of the three monster was on screen; when the camera first panned up to Godzilla, the theater freaking shook from his roar, and while I too wouldn't mind seeing that fight scene done out in full in, say, a director's cut DVD I don't think a few extra shots of him walking and roaring was needed to make that any more explanatory than it needed to be. And hell, I find more people who consider that news clip scene right after to be more humorous than teasing; the people in the theater were laughing like hell when I saw it.
And the simple fact is, that the film's already been green-lit for a trilogy. I doubt the praises and criticisms of this film have fallen on deaf director ears.
