Now that is a serious price cut! So much for it taking a while. Slightly weirdly, they are not cutting the original DS prices, which means a 3DS will now cost no more than an XL.
Nice they are offering the free VC games to early adopters- I suspect I'll still lose out but not drastically.

Just a question for those that have it. Granted with my unfortunate financial situation currently it'll be awhile before i can afford a 3DS, but are any of you colorblind and if so, have you been able to use the 3D?
I can answer this without the need to be colorblind.
The 3DS does not work through the color system used in yester-year movies (blue and red filters on a pair of disposable glasses).
The 3DS uses a "parallax barrel system" to achieve the glasses-less 3D effect. This also means that there is a limited viewing range in which one can experience the 3D effect.
This nerd explains this with visuals.

I'm not surprised at all, but I hadn't expected it to happen so fast. But fact is, the 3DS really hasn't been selling...it's just too expensive and there are no games for it.
They really should have waited for there to be some games worth playing on it before releasing it.
Ex-Nintendo president could lose $300 million due to 3DS
Following the 3DS' less than adequate performance and Nintendo's subsequent profit forecast slash, former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi could stand to lose over $300 million. Ouch!As of March 31, Yamauchi owned 10% of the company, equal to 14.17 million shares. According to Bloomberg, the value of those shares plummeted 24.2 billion yen ($312 million) after Nintendo's financial results. The "flop" of the 3DS is being blamed for Nintendo's current situation.
Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS as a result of its poor performance, which has received mixed opinions, especially from those who bought the system early and feel a bit screwed.
It's pretty bad news all round for the company, but there's a little bit of humor to chew on. When you forget about the consumers in order to release a console two months early just to make shareholders happy, then cost those same shareholders money as a result, one can't help but be amused. I'll take my twenty free games now.
Nintendo CEO takes 50% pay cut following 3DS issues
Say what you will about Nintendo (I know I have), but one can't help feeling a little trace of admiration for Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, who has taken personal responsibility for the 3DS' disappointing performance and subsequent price cut, along with an impressive 50% pay reduction."For cuts in fixed salaries, I’m taking a 50% cut, other representative directors are taking a 30% cut, and other execs are taking a 20%," he announced.
Of the 3DS price cut, Iwata said: "We decided that if we take brave measures now, there’s high likelihood that a many players can enjoy the Nintendo 3DS in the future."
This has been a pretty big disaster for Nintendo. You can certainly argue that "The DS didn't sell well at first either," but it was a very different market back then, and Nintendo knows it. With a lot more competition and rapidly shifting technology, the 3DS is in a very vulnerable position and only Urban Champion 3D can fix things!
I'm beginning to think the 3DS is one big sad joke made for the sole purpose of trolling the industry 😐
it says a lot when its only worth playing game is a rehash of an already successful game 😬
