So apparently a 3DS redesign may already be coming next year. If so, sucks for those who bought the original, especially before the price drop, but that'd be nothing new I guess.

Hurr, let's make another version of a handheld that still lacks anything worthwhile besides one good game port or so. dur
That rumour seems to be on the stronger side of things but it is one of several possible announcements being speculated about.

Hmm, the system was released 4 months ago. I think a redesigned is early and kind of a "**** you" to people who bought it.I haven't seen a single praise about the rumour.
Granted, if the redesigned is release 2 years from now, the case is moot.
Not really.
The new design would probably not be released to the consumer until 6 months to a year after the first release. In the computing world, 6 months to a year is often too long. Even with Apple, they do their new versions a year apart.
hardware does change, but sometimes ever so slightly.
It will be a dick move from their part to announced it so soon. the redesing is a sure thing, but the announcement can wait.
Anyways, even if they do wait, if the rumors turn out to be true it will only cement the 3DS as big failure. Changing the name only confirms it.
With the announcement of the extra 3DS nub add-on, Nintendo has worked out a way to patch consoles. We thought you could only do that with software, but once again, the game industry's disruptive force has shown us something we never thought possible.Just when you thought the patch culture that's grown up around this generation's games couldn't get sillier, it's now happening with hardware, and gamers get to pay for the privilege! It seems that rushing out a product to meet deadlines and then fixing it later isn't just for games, and since Nintendo can charge for this update, it's even more awesome.
So congratulations again to Nintendo, for its amazing innovations in the field of handheld gaming and its contributions toward making this industry a sloppier, lazier place ... because it really needed help in that department!
Oh ... and that nub looks ****ing retarded.
🙄
While the right circle pad thing is apparently true, perhaps it might be best to wait for Nintendo itself to clarify on the charging for patch updates. If their clarification does confirm that though, then they're no better than Capcom and all those that have abused the DLC concept >:, but charging for patches is arguably even more ridiculous.
Hardware or software patches (the former being like the circle pad), it matters not. Should the 2nd pad have been there from the beginning? If the attachment was Nintendo's idea and not someone else's, then yeah; they're basically admitting that they made a mistake in first designing the 3DS, and we have to pay for that mistake. hoho At least it's only $10 though.

I don't get it.
Patching software is a thing of the past, now they're back at patching hardware and charge you for it 😆
it's not like Nintendo's never done this before... remember the N64
btw: Nintendo did confirmed it

Nintendo has confirmed that the nubby nub-nub featured in magazine scans this week is a real thing, and that it will indeed be selling a glorified patch for the 3DS by way of a new controller add-on. The company also seems to make it clear that this won't just a Japanese release."We can confirm that Nintendo plans to release the Circle Pad attachment, but Nintendo's regional subsidiaries will make further announcements about its availability at a later date," said the publisher.
In Japan, the peripheral will be released to coincide with a new Monster Hunter game. As is often the way with Nintendo peripherals, I fully expect it to be released for that one game, then have maybe two other games take advantage of it before everybody realizes they just wasted their money on another shitty add-on that nobody's supporting. Could be wrong, but history seems to indicate that particular course.
Wii MotionPlus and Wii Speak say hello, by the way.
