Banner would have to be the leading specialist in gamma radiation.
I don't think Doom specializes in anything. He's more of a guy who knows a lot about a lot of things. The closest thing he specializes in would be robotics/engineering (armor/doombots/weaponry) and physics; but I wouldn't say he's a specialist in that he's stronger in one part and weaker in the other branches of science.

I'd wager Doom would make an excellent pub quiz participant, I don't think he is a specialist as such.

so you guys are saying that doom knows tons about everything, but most everything he knows there is probably someone, somewhere who knows more about that one thing than him?

I wouldn't necessarily say someone knows more but as a general scientist, I'd say Doom is more likely to overlook certain miniscule details of a certain field as opposed to someone who has dedicated their life specializing in such.

Doom is like thanos... Even if he attains everything he gives it all up....

And as to banners intelligence... He created the gamma bomb back when noone else could conceive of it...

His tech was always the best at restraining the hulk... No other scientist came close... Anyone that tried got their toys destroyed...

Most of banners current tech is based around tech he has been designing for years to contain the hulk...

Banners sudden giant leap in intelligence is less an upgrade but a revelation that if he wasn't constantly trying to solve the hulk problem.. Which he would never solve as it was actually am emotional/psychological problem... He had a huge mind at his disposal...

Whenever banner has created/found/discovered the device that will cure him
1. Hulk will arise to smash it
2. Banner will reignite the hulk with more gamma radiation because the hulk is necessary to saving the day.

It's almost like an allegory in saying that science cannot cure emotional ails. Drugs for example to cure depression do not get to the root of the depression if he never deal with it.
