Taken literally, the first would be the first Native American tribal language that came across the western land

Taken not literally, it was Spanish

so its really not that unreasonable for those states to continue speaking that language even after a few hundred yrs, now is it?

do ppl feel the same anger annoyance with french speaking american cities like New orleans, Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont?

now i am not saying they speak exclusively french and not english, 😬

The Spaniards just stuck out in my mind

Because they didn't just sight-see; they kicked some serious ass.

To be fair Arnold Schwarzenegger can speak English very well, he has just a very thick accent.

What's the difference? After 30+ years of speaking English, he should have shaken that damn accent. Especially being a US gov.

Look at Christoph Watlz; his English is perfect and he hasn't been exposed to America nearly as much as Arnold.

The anger and annoyance isn't there because it's the French 😂

Okay, okay... bad joke. We got good relationships with the French and British now, so there really isn't any animosity.

The American West was primarily Spanish and from John Quincy Adams's administration to Abraham Lincoln's administration we worked tirelessly to claim those lands for ourselves, annexing Texas and bashing Mexico's ass to Kingdom Come.

I think more unreasonable motives arise out of NAFTA than anything else

studies show wikipedia is not more subject to bias or error than any other reputable encyclopedia. Many changes have been made to the editing policy to make it more peer reviewed and nobody can just "change" pages anymore. Further, wiki has been praised for its ability to bring fast paced news from international events to people in an unbiased (as much as possible) manner, and has been recognized by international media organizations with awards.

for its faults (like any encyclopedia, it is not an academic source, though modern APA citation standards do include "wiki" sourcing) Wikipedia gets way less credit than it deserves.

The US has a language identity crisis. During his campaign Obama said Americans should learn more than one language, and in CA Arnold advocates English Only education, yet the sum'***** can't even speak English himself.

Ay guey, habla Espanol, pinchi cabron. sombrero2

Actually the Chinese landed in CA a century before the conquistadors. But they didn't lay foundations, they looked around and left just like the Vikings in Newfoundland.

All I am saying is that the United States is primarily an English speaking country. If I move to Germany, you can bet your sweet ass I am gonna speak alot of German before I move there.

That's a rather simplistic view, obviously there's a very big difference between being able to speak a language well and being able to pronounce it very well.

If he had one of the very thick British accents, which can be just as uncommon in the US and just as intelligible, would that be okay with you? His accent is very, very thick and rather uncommon, but it's really a minor detail as he can communicate very well.

sometimes when i hear certain comments i sense it arises from a little bit of prejudice then anything else.

it doesn't bother me when i have gone to china town or an Italian part of town... it doesnt bother me when i go to a spanish market area.. i could easily find somewhere else to shop or hang out where ppl speak the same language as me and i can get the same exact thing somewhere else.

same could be said for us marines in Iraq/Afghanistan

A human being without prejudice would be someone I would like to meet....and then infect them with prejudice 😈

Ah, a Spanish market area is actually a pretty cool place to shop at. I remember one in San Antonio (when I chose to stomach a visit to 😘 Texas).

Yes, it would because they invented the language and I can understand British people. "Just as intelligible"? As Arnold? No, he isn't and its hard to follow him. During his board meetings I can only imagine how many times people ask him to repeat something.

He also famously said during a radio interview "I believe gay marriage should be between a man and a woman." That's not a pronunciation issue; that's knowing what words mean.

That's just stupid. English is an evolving language with no absolute rules, there are perfectly normal accents, in England and the US, which are just as hard to understand as Schwarzenegger's pronunciation for someone mostly exposed to common US pronunciations. I can understand that you may hate the guy, but your complaints about that are just immature and trivial.

Most people make blunders like that, btw, especially when they have to talk a lot.

So you are telling me that the United States is NOT a primarily English speaking country?

It isn't officially anyways.

Of course anyone saying it isn't primarily English speaking is a fool....though I don't think anyone is saying that. Though you'll have to admit that there is a large portion of people speaking Spanish in the US now, too.

I don't disagree that they should learn English for their own sake, but it's probably not a bad idea for English speaking Americans to learn Spanish either (or any second language really).

I know one language I wouldn't learn: German. Only good for understanding what's said during a scat porn.

did i say that? no, i did not.

i just don't let things bother me it is called patients and understanding would i like for all of us to be able to properly communicate with each other? yes, is it likely to happen in a country based on a nations build on immigration from various nations? no.

True dat, mate. I don't understand why it hasn't been universally outlawed yet.

This is all I'm saying.

Why? See, this is the problem I have with the subject at hand. Someone comes to a country where English is the primary language, they should learn English. The English speaking citizens should not have to go out of their way learning a foreign language because the non English speaking immigrants speak no English.

i try not to be prejudice i mean it is almost a disease with me and i feel i will give myself aneurysm when i try too hard.

i mean i crack jokes about races but i actually don't mean it nor do i view ppl in a negative light.

my problem really comes with one particular race even though the majority haven't done a damn thing to me. i know that my negative thoughts that creep up on me is wrong and i try to bury them but then i meet a particular person who shouts everything i hate about that particular group but i know he does not speak for all of them... but it is so hard to separate his damn @$$ from the group.

i would tell you what race it is but it is very inappropriate.
