In contrast, Vitiate was very good at defending himself. He prevented T3-M4 from incinerating him with his grasp of defensive aspects of the Force even though he was caught off-guard by such an attempt on him. Heck, some Sith Lords serving him could tank even direct missile hits. I believe that Vitiate was virtually immune to most attacks.

Luke's Oneness had nothing to do with that, for a brief moment his power over-ruled Abeloth's.

That argument has been dead since 2011. Funny enough, Karpyshyn came out and actually confirmed that Vitiate can't do that shit at whim in an email.. hence why he never actually does.

He has a bunch of dudes he's imprinted with his power that are connected to his consciousness called the Emperor's Children. So they can hear his thoughts if he wants them too.

Vitiate's story is still in progress so it is not clear how he was eventually put out of commission.

HoT didn't kill him, if you are referring to the events that took place inside the Dark Temple.

Vitiate suffered a major setback in this encounter because he was interrupted from his (ultimate) ritual which seemingly backfired on him heavily.

It is not clear how Vitiate was eventually vanquished.

Vitiate had broken HoT earlier and kept him as his pwn for a long time. However, HoT's famed Jedi Master Orgus Din (as a spirit) helped him break free from Vitiate's telepathic influence. After this event, Vitiate focused more on making his (ultimate) ritual a reality rather then bring HoT back under his influence.
