They can be. They have a stealth based ability tree.

'Wielding double-bladed Lightsabers, Shadows embrace the synergy between melee and Force combat, enabling them to strike down enemies of the Order with deadly efficiency.'
Infiltration
Masters of stealth, these Shadows use positional attacks and surprise to defeat foes.
Kinetic Combat
Uses the double-bladed Lightsaber defensively to protect the Shadow and his allies.
Balance (shared)
Enhances the Sage’s Force attacks and augments the Shadow's Force and Lightsaber abilities.
This isn't a slight on the book or anything, but frankly, I don't like the idea of dark side nexuses. Even the cave on Dagobah kind of irks me, because imo it doesn't fit in with what the force is. It's an "energy field", a type of super natural power that is present in everything. It isn't "sentient", ergo the idea that there can be a "good side" and a "bad side" is off-putting to me. The force is the force, and it's always neutral. The concepts of the dark and light side are mindsets, not actual... sides, so to speak.
So, I don't understand how a planet, which is a non-sentient, floating rock, can be a "dark side nexus", when good and evil aren't anything more than a form of comparison that is exclusive to sentient beings. A planet can't be "evil" any more than a tiger can be "evil".

Careful with your heresy, young one.
But in all honesty, that is a good point. I like that EU addresses this with some Force-sects arguing neutrality in the Force as opposed to a foolish binary morality.

Right, morality itself is relative to humanity (Or in the case of Star Wars, sentients). But opposing yet complimentary concepts are typical of Daoism which GL ripped offborrowed from when he introduced chithe Force in the first place. You could argue it this way: a dark side nexus is a concentration of universally found energy which has taken on a certain form (i.e. negative, decaying, affected by death, etc.) and it is the sentients who attach the value of "good" versus "bad". In this way, a nexus is a nexus, and the observer decides if it is bad or not.
Also:
In keeping it real with Daoism/Taoism, this view of duality is (apparently) intrinsic to nature itself and the cosmos. Certain facets of reality are only identifiable by those they contrast with. For example, "My god is Steve Buchemi ****ing ugly" requires knowledge of someone who isn't that ****ing ugly to be a valid statement.

That's an all right illustration of Revan, but honestly, the cover idea is terrible. They should have designed a KOTOR style cover (iconic SW) with Revan, "Meetra Surik," Lord Scourge, Bastila, Canderous Ordo, HK-47 and the Sith Emperor.
Yep. But I suppose that isn't the style the recent SW novels like to go to. As in it would be actually good.
