Usually, the more story driven the fighting game, the more the gameplay suffers, usually. Sorta what Sats just said. I think you can have a decent story without having it be the main force behind the game.

That's bullshit really.

Good writing should in no way impede on the quality of gameplay. It's not like they are staffed by only 3 people or some shit.

Too generic of a character to lead the series. Too many people in the series that are better than him for him to be the main guy. Seems like he was meant to be a side character.

ah. disagree tbh.

Well I'm tired of him being the typical MK posterboy as well, so am hoping Cage, Scorpion, etc. will have more of a role than him in this altered timeline the new game takes place in.

i guess i just never saw him as the posterboy, though i'll also admit i don't see what the big fuss is over Scorpion.

Cage, now, i'm glad to see back.

He's the title's foremost anti-hero; his demeanor, characteristics, persona, and self-reliance all contribute to his popularity, with Scorpion being the most human in nature and choice when compared to the "good guys" and "bad guys" of the series.

No, i get THAT, even if i disagree.

I just don't like him that much, i guess.

I'm going to shadow kick the **** out of everyone with Johnny Cage. ha-som

Would it work on Cyborgs though? mmm

If their scrotum hasn't been replaced by cybernetics yet. Even if it has, Cage's probably gonna do serious damage to the wires &stuff down there.

Cage is awesome. I 1st thought Cage was supposed to be the main guy because he was on the arcade cabinet as Raiden would be for MK2. Was pissed when I realized it was Liu. He had the WORST fatality in MK also, only came in useful on the pit.

Scorpion is just awesome and his catchphrase makes him the most iconic MKombatant IMO.

i'm just glad to see the crotch punch back.

shoulda showed the inside of the sac bursting.. but they copped out I see

MK9 looks better than MKvsDC but the story is lame as hell:

Developer Ed Boon describes the game as an altered re-telling of the events of the original first three Mortal Kombatgames (MK, MK II, and MK3).
...Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before he delivers the last blow, he [Raiden] sends a mental message to his earlier self, so the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat 1. The Raiden from back then gets a message and he doesn't know what's going on, but he knows something bad's going to happen, and the game spans Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3, retelling the story with an enlightened Raiden, and he's changing the course of things, so everything you've seen happen before ? Liu Kang winning, the guys turning into cybernetic ninjas, are changed around, so you might see a character become cybernetic who wasn't before, and so you see a different version [of events].

WTF?!

Kinda glad they did. Seeing a sac bursting every time you do that move would've made it a bit too disturbing for my tastes.

What's wrong with that? After the disaster game that was Armageddon, Mortal Kombat could use new plot twists such as those, so I disagree about MK9's story being lame as hell, especially when compared to MKvsDC's.

I would like to know though how Shao Khan actually beat Raiden, or at least go a little more into that.

Still predict that the younger Subzero will become a cybernetic ninja, especially seeing as how we've got the original Subzero back (which means no Noob Saibot).

I think their trying to retcon all the deadly alliance shit and stuff.

Perhaps, or at least retcon the evil/ruthless Thunder God that Raiden became after his suicide against Onaga. Hated that version of him.

XD but think of the humor.. it would be perfectly in tact and burst again everytime you did it

but in all honesty.. it just looks wierd seeing nothing but torso muscles getting punched.. you dont get any kind of "OH DAMN you KNOW that shit hurt.." like you do with the other x-rays

Cage is punching the crotch of his opponent. If it's a male he's pulling off the move against, we definitely will get a "OH DAMN you KNOW that shit hurt" feeling.

I like it so far because it gives them a chance to start over w/a more worthy hero.
