XBOX 360 Kinect

Started by Morridini6 pages

Caught some of the Kinext things at Microsofts conference, looked horrible (except for the Dashboard and movie stuff).

the name's snappy. kinda sounds like a cross in between kinetic and connect.

but still. this gadget seems like it's only going to appeal to casual fans mostly, i assuming, because microsoft saw how much the wii was benefiting from this target audience and the wanted a piece "or marketshare" of that pie so why not do the same, or even better do it without controllers.

i don't see why, along the way, they can't make it so hardcore gamers could benefit from Kinect, as well. it'll be even more money for them anyway.

I don't care about kinect. =\

As usual Gamestop doesn't know jack SHIT! Godammit! What kind of employees do they hired? Look like a bunch of morons. Grrr!!! 😠

I call my three local gamestop and all are like "HUH, Whut?!!"

I want my new black Xbox 360. Dammit!

It was just announced. What do you expect? Unless they're watching E3 on their phones, or their district/regional manager is watching E3 and sending out constant emails (which are usually at least half an hour behind), how would they know about it? It won't be in the computers until tomorrow at the earliest.

Also, I'm pretty sure that no matter how MS fixes the 360, there's always going to be the potential for a RRoD. It is impossible to create a piece of technology that has zero problems whatsoever.

Well, I finally call another GS about 20 mins and the girl was more profesional. She kindly told me that they heard the announcement....BUT no further details yet...so she told me to try again tomorrow. No pre-orders at this time. I'm sure they will getting calls all day. So, I'll just wait....but still they have TV inside their stores and I'm sure they can see the event. So meh!

Well, you are wrong there.

Stores have TVs in them, but there is no cable, and what plays on them is a predetermined loop that changes every month. And there is no internet access, either, beyond intrastore email.

So no way of getting that info beyond what I said.

Also I would be wary of trusting those slim 360 rumors, as that image is most definitely a 3D render.

Its on an XBL video as well.. it has 250G HD, quieter fan or something like that.. has usb storage connectors on the back, is Kinect ready out of the box, and has what they say is "the fastest wifi connector" (built in) on any console

So I guess they're doing what nintendo did with DS like every 6 months.. /sigh

The Star Wars game would be the big draw for me. Still thinking i like the PS3 one more, though.

This is a first time they revamped the 360 since it came out.

Yea, that's what I am terrified of... that the Xbox 360 Kinect will end up being another Nintendo Wii... and what I have seen has yet to lessen my fears...

well dont forget the 360 Elite hehe.. but I mean that it feels like this is going to be a nintendo-esque start down the road of nonsensical, continuous upgrades for MS

Well, I traded my 360 for store credit towards a Xbox 360 Slim. My older 360 was RROD once and the warranty had expired. So, for $140 (I threw in two old games) I'm pretty satisfied. According to the salesman they will be sometime this week or they will contact me to pre-order.

I'm good and looking forward to the new Slim version.

BTW, that '360 slim' has got to be one of the worst console designs I've ever seen.
But if they've fixed the RRoD thingy with this new model, then I guess it's better than nothing.

Really? What's so bad about the design? To me, it looks a lot like the original 360 design but has has vents on both sides.

Don't mind him, he's a PS3 fanboy who bashes anything Microsoft.

Motion control through body movement >>> motion control through the movement of a stick. In other words, Kinect >>> PS3 Move.

360 kinect = the playstation eye + the wii without controllers.

The Elite is the same box as the original XBOX. Difference was a bigger HD and HDMI port.

The 360 slim is a redesigned with features that help including built in wireless and bigger HD.

Considering the 360 has been out for a long time, I don't mind having a redesign.

Sony has been doing it for years also. Hell, the PS3 slim added nothing but instead being smaller (i think it added nothing) and it was released a lot sooner than this.

smaller and cheaper (all the innards that make it cheaper)

though it's the first aesthetic change, to say it hasn't been redesign before it's inaccurate

there's been different models (both for 360 and PS3) all internal changes, but changes nonetheless (HDMI port, different MoBo, GPU/CPU, heat dissipator, added memory for Arcade models...etc)

back on subject: Kinect games look worst than they did last year (at least back then there was a sense of novelty) just like wii shovelware... no integration with hardcore games whatsoever, just a bunch of "look silly trying to play" games.

the dashboard and video interface sound good... the SW game sounds better than anything else, but so far it looks like a tech demo 😬

Edit: just saw this and it made me LOL

love the new slogan:

XBOX360

here today

will red-ring tomorrow

😆

They're going to be in this week - the info we had from our regional manager is that they were supposed to ship today.

They are not going to be reservable, though. Kinect is, and systems that come bundled with it are, but the slim 360 itself will not be.

Also we don't yet have price info on it. Considering one of the emails we received tonight, though, my guess is going to be $300-350.

I might as well post this in here 😛

Details on the New Xbox 360
Will your old hard drive fit?

The new, slimmer Xbox 360 will be available in stores this week. We've got the full details on all of the console's new features -- and the skinny on what happens to all your older Xbox stuff.

The slim, black X360 comes with a 250 GB removable hard drive. You will need to love it, because your old hard drive won't fit on the smaller system. Neither will your memory cards. That's because the slim doesn't have a slot for memory cards. Instead, it has five USB ports (two in the front, three in the rear). Remember, you can now use a USB flash drive to store up to 16 GB of data.

If you hate noise, this is the X360 for you. Not only does it have a "whisper quiet" disc drive, but the two fans have been turned into one fan for better noise efficiency (AKA quieter). You won't hear the clicky-clack of buttons either. Touch sensitive buttons for the on/off and eject buttons require just a swipe of the finger. Slick. The new system also uses a more efficient power source, so your old power supply won't plug into the back. Don't worry, the Slim comes with a new power cord.

The system offers both an AV port for composite or component connections and an HDMI port. An optical audio jack is also included if you want to connect to a sound system. HDMI and component cables are not included in the Slim X360--just composite cables (for crappy TV viewing).

Any controllers or peripherals you have will work with the new system. There will be some new controllers, headsets, and more designed to match the Slim's hot look if you like to spend money.

The best inclusion with the $299.99 (USD) package is the built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi. Previously, gamers had to spend big bucks for a wireless add-on. This inclusion actually saves you a load of cash, which is kind of nice of Microsoft. Kind of makes up for all those extra consoles we had to purchase after our systems broke.

If you don't own an Xbox 360 or if you want a new one, start harassing your local games store. The Slim Xbox 360 will be in stock any day now.

it sounds like the old PS3, with the touch buttons (that everyone, but me, hated; but now they are "slick"😉 Wi-Fi, glossy black finish and crappy AV cable 😄
