Marvel's Newest Cosmic Event - The Chaos War!

Started by Bouboumaster42 pages

I liked Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, and Incredible Hercules, but this shit is so extreme! He ****in ruined Galactus! Pak must now do something awesome with him in his "Silver Surfer" title, or I swear I won't buy anything else from him, ever.

Pak MUST continue to write. His Incredible Hercules was one of the best title I read in the past 2 years. Give him back this title! And maybe Hulk's too, but for the love of sake, let Abnett and Lanning being the ones writing the cosmic stuff.

Well, atleast we know Pak can't write cosmic events. DnA are only a little better when it comes down to it. Both should just stick to storylines and stay away from big events. Not sure he knows enough about cosmic Marvel to be writing Surfer tho. He should stick to writing Hercules. He's the reason I actually like Hercules. But Marvel decided to end it like it's done many of my other favorites.

My pull list use to be this.

Hercules - Pak
GOTG & Nova - DnA
Dark Avengers - Bendis
Atlas - Park
Mighty Avengers - Slott
Secret Warriors - Hickman
Thunderbolts - Diggle

Now it's this.

Secret Warriors
Secret Avengers
Thunderbolts

I'm sitting here waiting for Surfer and the Annihilators by this point. And what sucks is that Thanos Imperative, Chaos War, and Siege are all horribly written events that ended three of my favorites. Then you got MA ending where Pym marries off Jocosta to Ultron and Secret Warriors continuing abysmal wrap up of their storyline. All these having one thing in common; they seemed rushed - even Siege. The only great ones were Agents of Atlas and Thunderbolt. Marvel's editor should have sent those writers back after writing those garbage of an ending. Hopefully they learned atleast one lesson in all this: don't let Pak write cosmic events.

P.S. F#ck the Heroic Age. The Civil War and Age of Apocalypse was more interesting. Actually, throw in the Onslaught Saga too.

You're a man after my own heart I tell ya. Mines included S.W.O.R.D. as well. And Immortal Iron Fist when it was out.

I feel you, these events had been awful, it's as if event storytelling was meant to be bad.

Pak and D&A were at their best in ongoings, but most of the books I look for nowadays are minis -I'm on and off into the Avengers book now that Cosmic is gone-.

yup, i fully agree.

chaos war #5 out. pretty bad IMO.

Spoiler:

chaos king achieves becoming one with the void, and the heroes live and restore everything to normal. predictable solution to an inevitable outcome.

Herc's new plot device power up allows him to engage in a brawl with chaos king in space. all of reality has been absorbed into chaos king with the exception of the localized area around earth, where he and herc are punching and clawing at each other.

on earth, the dead avengers, god squad, and assorted remaining gods like balder, etc. are battling chaos king's minions.

Galactus has strapped himself into the device he was building in the previous issue and is using the last of his reserves to open and maintain a portal to athena's pocket universe so the earth and its survivors can be evacuated from the mainstream reality. Cho however refuses to act as doing so will kill millions. Instead, he tells herc to bring chaos king down to earth.

Herc is losing his MMA fight with chaos king, yet somehow manages to bring mika down to earth. So, while planet earth was no larger than either herc's or CK's hand, somehow herc manages to shrink himself and CK so they can both fit in the area over manhattan directly over the baxter building. Bad art in that regard.

Instead of evacuating the entire earth into the portal to athena's pocket dimension, Herc literally punches mika into the portal, which galactus and cho promptly close behind him.

Chaos King becomes the total void in the pocket universe and is contained there, which contradicts pak's and van lente's earlier writing that CK had absorbed 99% of the multiverse (a pocket universe is part of the multiverse, after-all. And the fact that CK is contained in the pocket universe implies that he is unable to jump from universe to universe).

meanwhile, athena somehow reveals herself as still being alive, and explains that she engineered the whole chaos war from the beginning, in order for herc to be the god of heroes that she wanted him to be, to take his place as all-father and to rule now with wisdom that zeus never had. Herc says no, that plan is awful, and instead uses the entirety of his abstract-level powers to undo everything that Mikaboshi had done as his time as Chaos King except for returning the dead heroes to death. they seem to be still alive. Herc in effect single-handedly restores that "99% of the multiverse" that Chaos King had absorbed.

The price he paid of course, was that he is now completely mortal.

Predictable ending to a forgettable story.
