Thanos has beaten Moondragon w/ Mind Gem on the astral plane.

Does that count as 'metaphysical'? 😛

Thanos is also a master of black magic. And has been apparently for about 300 years.

Nope, I don't consider 'psionics' a metaphysical ability 😎

But maybe you are on to something with the black magic thingie.

How proficient is he? Not to hijack this, but could he beat someone like Doc Strange on that front alone (since he would have more experience)?

Doctor Strange said he couldn't beat him. But Dr. Strange has the feats and Thanos doesn't.

The first scan has nothing to do with the actual fight. I'm just showing that it was written by Stan Lee himself.

It's clear Mephisto underestimated Surfer. But feeling threatened doesn't mean Surfer was manhandling him. Indeed, Surfer seems to admit that Mephisto is on a whole other level than he is. Based on feats, I think it's apparent that Mephisto is in another class.

Surfer physically overpowered Mephisto. In his own realm. Thanos is clearly physically superior to Surfer, so...

Meh im not sure if that was a purely physical match up. In the background looked like there was a lot of swirling energy being generated by the two of them. I also find it a bit hard to believe that mephisto who supposedly cant be harmed thru physical means can be defeated e overcome through a game of mercy.

Naija, just nod your head, agree with me that Surfer is that good, and be done with it.

😛

^ Sorry, but seriously, Mephisto truly is in another class. Sure, his need to ensnare noble souls and concomitant refusal to kill opponents makes him job sometimes, but based on feats, Mephisto takes this.

lol, my bad. Surfer IS indeed that good. 😛 Therefore the accurate assesment is that Surfer>Mephisto>Thanos. Surfer by default therefore must also be >Thanos which means that all the times he has lost to thanos were PIS. 😄

Written properly, Mephisto would own Thanos.

Mephisto is probably one of the most jobbing villain in marvel. shouldn't he be skyfather level or something?

^ Other than Black Panther, aka TOAA's superior, I don't recall Mephisto jobbing all too often in an actual fight.

Wow, I come back here and my thread is still going.

Let's keep the debate going guys.

I think that Meth takes this because he seems to be Skyfather level at least.

So, he wasn't jobbing against surfer and surfer can overpower him in his realm? If that was a legit fight your convinced that Thanos couldn't do the same?

It was repeatedly stated throughout the clashes between Mephisto and Surfer(by BOTH parties I believe) that Meph could kill Norrin with ease if he really wanted to, it's just that he wanted Surfer's soul rather than his life. So anytime Surfer foiled whatever plot was afoot and put up a significant level of resistance Meph would just bow out rather than waste time fighting. TBH, Meph nearly killed Surfer by accident one time just by focusing his rage against Norrin...

Of course this all WAS during the period when Surfer was being written as depowered...

Darthgoober: That's exactly the type of explanation I was trying to convey. 👆

Enyalus: That's an ok image. But it's got hammy lines. I prefer Mike Mignola's artwork and Roger Stern's script:

That's because I didn't scan it myself. uhuh

I prefer no one's artwork to Michael Turner's. 😛 And as for the dialogue...I thought he was going to say, "I am Darkseid!" at the end of his speech. 😛

^ Michael Turner was awful. 😐

Yeah. I said it. And no, let's not argue about this, because I hold John Romita Jr's artwork to be excellent and I know you don't. Back on topic:

Mephisto possible stalemate 5/10 neutral ground.

Mephisto stomps 10/10 inside his realm.

During mephistos fight with galactus in his realm they were wrecking galaxies. He definitely wins the battle there.

Meph is cool but he's not cool enough to avoid referring to himself as evil. Darkseid never calls himself evil.

Meph 9/10 or 8/10 overall.

I don't think Meph is cool at all. I think he's lame. lol

Loki is cool. 😛 And Mephisto refers to him as the God of Evil. 😉
