Mephisto has far more raw power than Thanos, but appears to have to abide by certain guidelines as pertains the use of his immense power...
If Mephisto's goal is to get Thanos's soul, then Thanos wins every single time in either senario as I believe he is too strong willed to fall for "Satan's" tricks (inaddition, if I remember correctly, Mephisto cant directly use his power to force you to give him your soul nor can he gain it by killing you directly)...
If Mephisto decides he doesnt give a dam about Thanos's soul and just wants him dead, then Mephisto wins every single time in either senario...
