Sorry, but even if authors don't intend such, separate storylines are different canon. The anime and the manga are not canon and the specials are not canon to the anime.
Unless you can tell me where Janemba fits into the Animse timeline.
Both Goku and Vegita were dead in that movie. when they met in Hell.
In the anime When Vegita died was around the time goku was returned to life by the elder kai. A little bit later Vegita gets wished back to life, and neither goku nor vegita die again as of the end of Z.
So Janemba does NOT fit into the Anime Timeline and is therefore NOT part of its continuity.

Except the Bardock movie can fit into continuity unlike most others. The other movies of Z can be as non canon as they want, it doesn't change the fact that Akira put the same scene in the manga.

His character has changed a lot over his years. There was a period after mantis died and he lost Shalla bal that he went round kicking ass and taking names for a few years. There was also period where he lost his emotions and almost killed the hulk by accident. The hulk had a big power up at the time.
I still don't see why he can't just drain there Ki like the androids did. The surfer has manipulated life energy on a planetary scale and the power cosmic has been used to manipulate souls. He has drained or removed the powers of super beings before after they failed to listen to reason.
