Black Swan

Aronofsky's next film; I'm so pumped for it.

Trailer - http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/08/17/movie-trailer-darren-aronofskys-black-swan/

Plot synopsis - "A New York City ballet company is producing Swan Lake, and director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) with ballerina Nina (Portman). Nina lives with Erica (Hershey), her overbearing mother and a former ballerina. Nina finds competition in new dancer Lily (Kunis). Swan Lake requires a ballerina who can play the innocent White Swan, which fits Nina, and the sensual Black Swan, which fits Lily. The dancers' rivalry changes into a bizarre friendship, and Nina begins exploring a dark side of herself."

Gets a wide (or at least wider) release December 1, 2010.

Currently my most anticipated film. Seriously looking forward to this.

Yep, it looks AMAZING!! Big fan of Vincent Cassell, good to see him in a bigger role outside of France. Fantastic actor. Been waiting for this film for a long time. I got a Red Shoes and Suspiria vibe from the trailer, that can't be bad at all.

I see in the link it mentions the tone is in the same realm as Polanski's The Tenant, and Rosemary's Baby. Oooo what a mix.

Is it just me or is Vincent Cassell ONLY capable of playing really really creepy roles?

Anyway, I was excited for this film the moment I heard about it, due to the fact that I'm a fan of Aronofsky, but the trailer really increased my excitement. Looks amazing indeed.

Haven't seen Red Shoes or Suspiria.

In American films he tends to play that role. But his home country films are more varied, not a lot of 'comedic' uplifting roles, but not all really really creepy in the slightest.

Gotcha. I'll have to check some more of his films out. I guess just all of the ones I've seen him in he plays a rapist, low-life, etc. and when I see him I just get that vibe.

It might change, he plays Otto Gross in the new Cronenberg film Dangerous Method, from what I've read of the real life psychoanalyst, he wasn't a creep.

At first, I thought it was a like a more mature version of "step up". And I was like, "lame. 😐 "

But den, I saw Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis kissing and den I was like, "SCWHING!" 😆

There had better be some gruesome 187s in this film or it won't be worth watchin, imo.

I'm not by any means a Cassel-adept, but in what movie did he play a rapist? Or are you referring to 'Irréversible' where he doesn't play a rapist but his girlfriend in the film is brutally raped?

He played a rapist in Derailed. But

Spoiler:
he wasn't really, it was a set up with his girlfriend
.

Yeah, Derailed is what I was thinking.

Oh, never saw that.

Okay, just saw this - I really, really liked it. Natalie Portman gives probably her best performance yet, the atmosphere is palpable, appropriately operatic and thematically, this movie is very similar to Aronofsky's last film - The Wrestler. But whereas Rourke's character was seeking some sort of redemption, Portman's in Black Swan is striving for perfection. If you're a fan of Aronofsky or Portman, go see it.

Will likely still watch this, as I was intrigued the first time I read about, but when I saw the preview about a month ago (when watching Conviction); it seemed like one of those movie where you get everything you need to know about the story just for the 3min preview.

This looks so INTENSE... due to lack of funds I'll probably have to NetFlix it, but it is on Teh List.

Yeah I will see this.

Watched this on Saturday. I really liked it and it is probably my favorite Aronofsky film thus far. It met, and slightly exceeded my expectations (which were pretty high).

Dang. I guess I'll see this after all.

Natalie's and Mila's sex scene is the best part of this movie. I found the psychological thriller parts were fine but came slowly and was bored in-between them.

I'll be watching this tonight after I get back from the gym, but if the best this flick has to offer is some faux-lesbian sex, then I fear my thoughts above about the film are true.

Hopefully I'll be shown to be wrong.
