"No wait!" Leon shouted suddenly. He was looking around as if he was mad, searching every corner. He could have sworn he had just seen something moving. The cliché 'we're being watched' feeling washed over him. "Nobody move," He said, much calmer. He methodically scanned his surroundings, but he could see nothing out of the ordinary, apart from the blatantly obvious. "False alarm," He sighed, after several minutes of silent looking. "I must be going mad."
Just as he said those words, something that felt approximately like a wrecking ball knocked him across the room. It was not a wrecking ball, but an armored fist. The owner of the fist moved like a blur, crossing the room towards Leon, and as it did so, a laser field activated, separating Leon and the armored figure from everyone else. Leon may have been winded, but his mind was still working. Whoever his mysterious attacker was, they not only knew this base, but how to work its security system. That narrowed down the suspect list immensely. Leon had a feeling he knew exactly who this person was - Their strength and speed felt strangely familiar.
The figure suddenly stopped moving, and Leon's suspicions were confirmed instantly. The tail was unmistakable. Leon got to his feet. "Liam?" The figure immediately smacked Leon across the face, sending him back to the floor and nearly breaking his jaw. Leon looked up and saw the armor simply melting away, revealing Liam's face. 'That armor must be made from nanotechnology' was Leon's first thought. His second though was - 'Sweet crap! What happened to him?' - For Liam looked completely different now. Scars ran down his face, and his now lifeless eyes were bloodshot. He looked absolutely insane. His mouth was twitching, and his armored hands shook. His tail flailed about seemingly of its own will. Leon noticed that even the tail was covered in armor.
"What happened?" Leon asked. He knew straight away that this was a stupid thing to ask, and was reward with a kick that sent him flying through the air. He recovered in mid air and landed clumsily several metres away.
"What... What happened?" Liam replied, his voice sounding strangely hoarse, but still maintaining its trademark award winning sarcasm. "What the f*ck do you think happened, Leon?" He gestured around. "Whole f*cking city went up, didn't it?" he spat, walking towards Leon, who tensed, ready to fight. "We were completely overrun in a single night. It's been nearly two weeks, Leon. TWO WEEKS!!" He suddenly shouted. "What were YOU doing in that time? Is that school of yours so f*cked up now that it takes you THIS long to send a rescue team? Well it’s too f*cking late! There’s only me left!"
“What the hell are you on about?” Leon snapped, his temper rising. Liam gave a harsh yell of frustration, and charged towards Leon, but this time, Strikeforce’s leader was ready. He pushed his hand forward, and Liam was forced to dive to the side to avoid the attack which rippled the air, impacting on the far wall and leaving a large dent there. “We only heard about the Hive two days ago Liam.”
“Oh don’t give me that sh*t! I’ve been sending you distress signals since day one!” Liam screamed, rushing forwards again. This time he leaped expertly over Leon’s next shockwave attack. And moved forwards. Leon tried his best, but as good at hand to hand that Leon was, it was Liam who had taught him everything he knew about physical combat and with the nanotechnology no doubt increasing his speed and strength, Leon knew he was no match. In mere seconds, Liam broke through his defenses, and, using his tail, lifted him by the neck, squeezing tightly.
Leon knew what was going on. Liam had been so traumatized by what happened that he could no longer think rationally. He guessed that his friend had not slept since the incident started. Even with his throat being crushed by Liam’s tail, Leon managed to gasp “We didn’t receive any distress signals!”
“Bullsh*t!” came the reply, and Leon suddenly felt a flurry of blows all over, as Liam startled pummeling him with all four limbs. He felt several things crack, and he let out a grunt of pain, knowing that his ribs had been fractured. Desperate now, Leon grabbed the tail holding him, and tried to free himself. But he knew it was useless. Liam’s tail was stronger than his other limbs combined. Leon would have had better success cutting wood with a toothpick.
There was only one option left. Trying his best to ignore the pain, Leon summoned a shockwave in both hands and punched Liam in the stomach. The effort broke his fingers in several places as his fists impacted on the armor, but it worked. Liam’s tail relaxed for a second, and in that instant, Leon pushed forward. The air rippled, and then exploded, forcing the two of them apart. Leon skidded along the ground before hitting the far wall. Liam wasn’t so lucky – He hit the laser field, which crackled and sparked, shocking the monkey boy into unconsciousness.
Leon got up slowly, he felt the area where his bones were broken, and the came away covered in blood. “Huh?” he said, looking down. One of his ribs had punctured his torso. His uniform was slowly turning red from the blood. “Well… F*ck.” He mumbled, before he too sank to the floor.
